Today we’d like to introduce you to Jensen Jow.
Jensen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was 16, I’ve had a camera in my hands. From filming friends longboarding, photographing competitive paintball matches, and documenting hikes. What started as a hobby gradually turned into a serious passion for creating.
While working a full-time job, I began freelancing on the side and taking on small projects through platforms like Craigslist. Over time, that side work grew into consistent client opportunities and referrals. In 2018, I joined Mantis 3D as a junior photographer, still learning the business and refining my craft. Over the next several years, I worked my way into a lead role by focusing on quality, reliability, and strong client relationships. In 2021, when the original owner decided to pursue other passions, I was given the opportunity to take over the company.
Transitioning into ownership marked a major shift in my career. I became responsible not just for creative direction, but for operations, systems, pricing, and long-term strategy. That hands-on experience helped me build a more scalable, service-focused business rooted in consistency and trust. As the company grew, I began working more closely with multifamily and commercial clients, which pushed me to develop stronger workflows, build dependable teams, and think long-term about growth.
Today, I lead Mantis 3D and focus on strengthening the company through strong systems, reliable partnerships, and consistently high-quality work. At the same time, I’m beginning to develop my personal brand to work more closely with select clients and explore new creative and business opportunities, with an emphasis on building something sustainable for the long term.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. In the early years especially, I was doing everything myself including shooting, editing, client communication, scheduling, invoicing, and business development. That pace was not sustainable, and it forced me to learn quickly how to manage both my time and my energy.
One of the biggest challenges was learning how to price properly and manage cash flow. Early on, I undercharged at times and focused more on staying busy than building something financially stable. It took experience and a few tough lessons to understand the difference.
Taking over the company in 2021 added another layer of pressure. I was not just responsible for my own work anymore. I was responsible for the team, the systems, and the long term health of the business. Every decision carried more weight, and there was a steep learning curve. At the same time, scaling the business meant learning how to delegate and trust others while still maintaining consistent quality. Training new team members, managing client expectations, and preventing scope creep required stronger processes and clearer communication.
Each of these challenges pushed me to become more disciplined and more strategic. They forced me to focus on building reliable systems, setting clear standards, and creating a business that is built for long term stability rather than short term growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Mantis 3D is a full service real estate media company that creates photography, video, virtual tours, and digital assets for residential, multifamily, and commercial properties. Our goal is simple. We help our clients show their properties at their best and make a strong first impression with buyers and renters.
What really sets us apart is how much we care about the relationship, not just the final product. We take time to understand our clients, their goals, and how their properties fit into their larger brand. Instead of treating projects as one time shoots, we focus on building long term partnerships.
We are known for being reliable, easy to work with, and detail oriented. Clients know they can reach us, get clear answers, and trust that their projects will be handled professionally from start to finish. A lot of our growth has come from referrals, which means a lot to us.
One of the things I am most proud of is the reputation we have built for trust and consistency. Whether it is a small listing or a large development, we bring the same level of care and attention to every project.
I want readers to know that Mantis 3D is built on genuine relationships and long term thinking. We love helping our clients grow and succeed, and we see ourselves as a creative partner they can rely on, not just a vendor they hire once.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is building something that is sustainable, meaningful, and enjoyable to run. It means having strong systems, happy clients who trust us, and the freedom to be intentional about the work we take on. I also see success as having the flexibility to protect my time and enjoy life outside of work while continuing to grow and improve and do work I am proud of.
