Meet Jason Perez of JP Financial Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Perez.

Hi Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a proud first-generation Mexican American and the son of two hardworking immigrants who sacrificed so much to give my brother and me a better future. Growing up, education and soccer were my life. I was a straight-A student and dedicated athlete, and at 17, I moved to Mexico to pursue my dream of playing professional soccer, even missing my high school graduation and celebrating my 18th birthday there.

Although soccer didn’t work out as I had hoped, God had a different plan for me. At 18, I was introduced to the financial services industry, where I earned my insurance and investment licenses. I started from the bottom, knocking on doors, cold calling, and doing whatever it took to build a career while attending Cal State Fullerton.

In 2020, I decided to take a leap of faith and become an independent broker, hoping to build something of my own and better serve my clients. But that December, my life changed when my father became severely ill with COVID-19. For over a year, I spent countless days going back and forth to hospitals, caring for him while my mother lost her job due to the pandemic. With my business still in its early stages, I suddenly found myself financially responsible for my family, all while trying to finish my final year of college.

There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and considered dropping out. But I’ll never forget my father lying in his hospital bed, worried that his illness would prevent me from graduating. To my parents, seeing their children earn a college degree was their American dream. That moment gave me the strength to keep going.

Through God’s grace, hard work, and faith, I persevered. I graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2022 with my degree in Finance and continued growing my business.

Today, I’m blessed to have my own office in Irvine, a successful independent insurance business, and the ability to provide for my parents while building a beautiful life with my wife, whom I met during one of the most difficult chapters of my life.

Looking back, I’m grateful for every struggle because it shaped the man I am today. My greatest accomplishment isn’t financial success. It’s being able to give back to my parents, honor their sacrifices, and help other families build a more secure future.

Above everything, my faith in God has been my foundation. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Him, my family, and the clients who have placed their trust in me. I hope my story reminds others that where you come from doesn’t determine where you can go, and sometimes the hardest chapters of our lives prepare us for our greatest blessings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Growing up, I was a straight-A student and dedicated athlete, but that came with sacrifices. I experienced bullying, loneliness, and missed out on friendships and a normal social life because I was so focused on school, soccer, and making my parents proud.

Soccer was my lifelong dream. I spent countless hours training and sacrificing to pursue it, eventually playing semi-professionally in Mexico at 17. When that chapter ended, I continued playing at Golden West College at 19 and 20, hoping to eventually play at Cal State Fullerton. Unfortunately, my father’s illness changed everything, and I had to put my soccer dreams aside to prioritize my family.

At the same time, I was building my career in financial services from scratch. Countless rejections, cold calls, door knocking, long hours, and financial uncertainty were all part of the journey.

My biggest challenge came in 2020 when my father became severely ill with COVID-19. For over a year, I balanced hospital visits, caring for him, supporting my family financially after my mother lost her job, running my business, and finishing college. It took an emotional, mental, physical, and financial toll on me. There were moments when I felt completely overwhelmed.

But through it all, my faith in God never wavered. I learned that sometimes life doesn’t go according to our plans, but that doesn’t mean there’s no purpose behind the struggle. Looking back, the sacrifices, setbacks, and difficult moments shaped my character, strengthened my faith, and made me the person I am today. What once felt like losing my dreams ultimately led me to discover a greater purpose.

We’ve been impressed with JP Financial Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JP Financial Services is an independent financial services business based in Irvine, California, specializing in life insurance, retirement planning, and financial protection. With over seven years of industry experience, a college degree in Finance, and a background in insurance, investments, and entrepreneurship, I bring a level of knowledge and expertise that sets me apart. Having worked with and studied many of the leading companies, products, and competitors in the industry, I understand the differences between policies and know how to identify some of the most competitive options available for my clients.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve earned from clients across the country, many of whom I’ve never met in person. They choose to work with me virtually because of my knowledge, honesty, integrity, and genuine commitment to their best interests. As a bilingual, first-generation Mexican American, my upbringing taught me the importance of hard work, transparency, and treating people like family. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach or simply selling a policy. I believe in educating my clients, comparing their options, and helping them make informed decisions. My goal has always been to provide the same level of care and guidance I would want for my own family. To me, my greatest accomplishment isn’t just building a successful business, but earning a reputation as someone people can genuinely trust..

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was something as simple as going to McDonald’s with my parents and getting a Happy Meal. It wasn’t about the food or the toys, but about having my family together. Growing up, my parents were always working hard to provide for us, especially my father, who worked long hours as a self-employed handyman and painter. Those little moments were rare, which made them even more special to me.

As a kid, all I ever wanted was to spend time together as a family, just like the families I would see in movies. I didn’t need expensive things or fancy vacations. I just wanted my parents to be present, happy, and together.

I remember promising myself that when I grew up and started making my own money, I would make sure we could create more of those memories without worrying about work or finances. That promise is still one of my biggest motivations today. It’s also why I constantly pray to God to keep my parents healthy and strong, because now that I’m in a position to give back, all I want is more time with them. Looking back, I’ve realized that the greatest luxury in life isn’t money, but having the people you love around long enough to enjoy it together.
