Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Vasquez.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born to immigrant parents who taught me that my faith in Christ was a lifeline. Their sacrifices instilled in me a deep drive to learn, to grow, and to make the most of the opportunities before me, being born in the US. My story has been shaped by past experiences, including generational and environmental trauma, and the unique challenges of being a Latina in spaces where my voice was not always represented. Through those challenges, my faith in Jesus became my anchor. As I walked into the purpose of my life, I learned that the field of mental health as a clinician, supervisor, and entrepreneur is not only a profession for me—it is a calling and a ministry. Its not a job, its a mission and purpose. Every step of my education, from an associate’s degree to some doctoral work, has been part of God’s plan to prepare me for the work of serving others.
Founding Selah Counseling Center is both a testimony of God’s faithfulness and a response to His call on my life. Selah means to pause, reflect, and take rest in Him—and that is what happens in therapy. For people to experience when they walk through our doors place of healing . I see this work as a way to empower others to heal, to discover their God-given purpose, and to reach the dreams that may have once felt out of reach. It is my greatest joy to serve others through therapy and to witness lives transformed when faith, resilience, and hope come together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a first-generation daughter of immigrant parents, I grew up watching sacrifice up close. My parents taught me the value of hard work and the importance of education, but stepping into higher education as the first in my family came with struggles. I didn’t have a roadmapand had to discover it on my own. Financial barriers and cultural expectations often made the path feel lonely and overwhelming. I carried the weight of generational and environmental trauma. As a Latina, I faced the reality of being a minority in academic and professional spaces where my voice wasn’t always heard. At times, I questioned whether I belonged, battling imposter syndrome even as I earned my degrees—an associate’s, a bachelor’s, a master’s, and now stepping into doctoral work. In the midst of all of that, becoming a single mother to a child.
Founding Selah Counseling Center was not easy. It happened in the middle of an ugly divorce and a space where I found my full potential. I had to learn how to balance being a clinician with being a business owner, navigating the challenges of starting something from scratch and building a brighter future for my child. There were seasons when resources were scarce and the future felt uncertain. I had to trust God to provide what I couldn’t see. At times, the weight of carrying others’ pain while also processing my own could feel heavy—but my faith in Jesus reminded me that therapy is more than a profession; it is a calling and a ministry as mentioned before.
Through every obstacle, God used my struggles to shape my purpose. This led to me be a better worker, person, and parent for my child. Being first-generation, a minority, and a survivor of trauma became the very foundation of the work I do today.

Born out of a vision to treat people as whole beings—body, mind, soul, and spirit—Selah Counseling Center is not just another counseling practice but a sanctuary where compassion meets professionalism; where clinical excellence is joined with spiritual depth, and where healing feels both personal and transformative.
The center offers a wide range of services, from individual and family therapy to specialized programs for children, teens, and couples. There are unique offerings like pet therapy, where certified therapy animals bring comfort and calm, and wellness coaching, which helps clients set and achieve goals for physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Therapy is available in both English and Spanish, with the option to integrate Christian faith into the process for those who want it.
What sets Selah apart isn’t just its list of services—it’s the heart behind them. Every therapist is committed to meeting clients where they are, honoring their stories, and walking alongside them with compassion and respect. The team is trained in evidence-based approaches like EMDR and CBT, but they also recognize that true healing often requires more than techniques—it requires a safe space where people feel seen, known, and cared for.
The brand itself reflects that heart. Selah Counseling Center is proud to be known as a trusted resource in the community, partnering with schools, churches, and healthcare organizations, and providing culturally sensitive services that reflect the diverse backgrounds of the families it serves. We have a logo of a tree with a tree trunk shaped into DNA, reflecting our roots and identities. What we feed ourselves and the environment we are in is how we grow. We view the person holistically.
At its core, Selah Counseling Center wants people to know this: you don’t have to carry your pain alone. Healing is possible. Hope is real. And in this space, you’ll find the support, tools, and encouragement you need to become whole again and empowered to pursue the life and dreams God has placed before you.
