Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Clyne.
Hi Jasmin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, I’m Jasmin Domonique Clyne, the founder of Lillie-Joyce Gardens. My journey into gardening and wellness really grew out of my own personal transformation. Over the last 6 years, I have lost more than 160 pounds through bariatric surgery and long-term behavioral changes, which completely shifted the way I viewed food, wellness, discipline, and self-care.
During that journey, gardening became something really grounding and joyful for me. What started as curiosity quickly turned into a passion because I realized growing your own food is exciting, healing, and honestly a lot less intimidating than people think.
That inspired me to create Lillie-Joyce Gardens, a brand focused on making gardening feel simple, approachable, culturally connected, and fun for beginners—especially for people who think they don’t have enough space or don’t have a “green thumb.” Right now, we’re growing the brand through our 3-part “Let’s Start a Garden!” guide and kit series, which introduces beginners to gardening through themed growing experiences like Soul Food, Salsa, and Caribbean-inspired gardens paired with simple activities, education, and starter-friendly growing systems that help people build confidence while having fun growing their own food.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. I actually started Lillie-Joyce Gardens during a really difficult period in my life when I was facing both job and housing insecurity. Gardening became one of the few things that helped me stay grounded while everything around me felt uncertain. At the time, it gave me structure, peace, and something hopeful to pour my energy into.
During that season, I experienced a lot of loss all at once. I lost my apartment, my car, and went through a tough heartbreak, so mentally and emotionally I was carrying a lot. Eventually, I was evicted and had to leave that garden behind when I moved in with my grandmother, Lillie-Joyce. Once I settled in, I started growing again on her patio and had an amazing summer experimenting with different plants and learning even more through the process.
Honestly, gardening did wonders for my mental health during that time. It became my saving grace. It gave me something to nurture while I was trying to rebuild my own life, and it also gave me hope that you can always start over. That experience really shaped the heart behind Lillie-Joyce Gardens. I know what it feels like to begin again or to not have perfect circumstances, which is why I care so much about making gardening feel accessible, healing, and encouraging for other people too. More than anything, I would love for others to experience even a small piece of the peace and empowerment gardening gave me during one of the hardest seasons of my life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Aside from Lillie-Joyce Gardens, I’m also building my personal brand, Inclyne Wellness, with the long-term goal of stepping further into wellness coaching and mentorship. My focus is helping people understand that wellness—especially weight loss and lifestyle change—is deeply behavioral. It’s about habits, consistency, and creating routines that feel realistic and sustainable in everyday life, not perfection.
Lillie-Joyce Gardens is where that philosophy becomes more hands-on and tangible. Through our 3-part “Let’s Start a Garden!” series, I created a guide plus seed starter kit experience that makes gardening feel simple and approachable for beginners. Each themed kit—from Soul Food to Salsa and Caribbean-inspired gardens—includes beginner-friendly seeds and step-by-step guidance so people can learn by doing, even in small spaces.
What sets my work apart is the blend of lived experience, behavioral insight, and accessibility. Whether through wellness, education, or gardening, my goal is always the same: helping people make small, realistic changes that feel empowering, sustainable, and genuinely enjoyable.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along this journey is definitely perseverance.
I started Lillie-Joyce Gardens in the summer of 2024 with a clear vision and a lot of momentum. I was also navigating business guidance that I believed would help me stabilize, but it didn’t unfold the way I expected. Not long after, I went through a very difficult season where I lost a lot and had to essentially start over from scratch.
What got me through that period was what I call my Inclyne mindset. It’s the reminder that it’s okay to rest when you need to, it’s okay to start over without shame, and it’s important to remember what you’ve already survived. It’s also that inner voice that says, “you’ve been through hard things before—and you can rise above this too… Inclyne Baby!”
That mindset completely reshaped how I approach everything now. Perseverance, for me, is no longer about forcing my way forward—it’s about allowing space to pause, reset, and rebuild without giving up on the overall vision. And that’s a big part of how Lillie-Joyce Gardens has continued to evolve into what it is today.
