Meet Janae Dawson of Janae Marie Photography in Rancho Cucamonga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janae Dawson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Sometimes there comes a time in our lives and careers were we feel we need to make a change. Whether it is the desire to make more money, do something we love, or break from a 9-5. That time came for me in 2014 when I decided I was tired of working 9-5 and wanting to have more freedom in doing something I was passionate about.

My passion for photography didn’t reveal itself right away. I always knew I was interested in photography, and always the one with a camera in my family. It wasn’t until I really stumbled upon some old photos I took on a film camera 15 years ago when I ventured out on my first trip as an adult to New York. I wish I still had that camera and the scans to make digital copies, but all I have now is well kept prints. Noticing then that I had an interest and a keen artist eye made me rethink the direction I wanted to take in my career.

Determined to learn the realm of digital photography, I jumped right in and began teaching myself with YouTube videos, and practicing on family and friends. Being my biggest critic and scrutinizing every shot and figuring out what I could do better.

I officially launched my photography business in 2015 and hit the ground running. Attending various workshops and being involved in a mentorship helped me gain invaluable knowledge.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with any business, starting out is not easy. All the expenses involved and buying all of the expensive gear.

The biggest struggle for me was dealing with my currently incurable Multiple Sclerosis and fighting through pain to finish a shoot or a wedding without anyone even knowing I was in pain. Many of times I wanted to give up, but I continued to push through because I knew no matter what, pursing photography as my career is what made me happy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Janae Marie Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Although all aspects of photography fascinate me and I have tried several genres, Maternity, Weddings, and Families are what I do mostly. Specializing in Maternity and starting to specialize in wedding photography as well.

I would say I am most known for my Maternity work, as that is what I book the most.

I am most proud of being able to provide my clients with a boutique style service. Meeting in person to discuss their Maternity, or Wedding Photography while getting to know them personally.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA/OC/IE is a melting pot which for an artist like myself fuels the creating juices! All the amazing people and places to photograph, and don’t let me get started on our amazing weather.
