Meet Jahmed Carlisle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahmed Carlisle.

Jahmed can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As an artist, my journey began ten years ago. Iused to watch my older brother produce off FL STUDIO and record vocals off a Guitar Hero microphone. That was enough inspiration I needed to follow suit. At age 13 big bro taught me how to record my own vocals.

At the time, I had no idea that in a decade I would receive my debut on national television with BET network (Boomerang). I never thought music would take me that far, but then again I never considered giving up.

Losing my older brother to a bullet only increased my liability towards music. It was the only form of expression that made sense. From living in 10 different households within the last ten years of my life, the music has always been within reach.

With the support of my High School (SHS) for placing me into the school newspaper my junior year, my drive for creativity increased.

Has it been a smooth road?
If you have enough passion for creativity, you tend to tolerate anything negative that is equipped with the journey. One of the familiar struggles is learning how to accept failure and learning to overcome self-doubt. Having theunderstanding that success first starts within is the key. Speaking all things with tongue and then applying action is what helped me maneuver through the industry. I’ve thought of giving up numerous of times but like I said, it’s the passion that keeps the faith strong.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
The ultimate focus is creativity. Maintaining a creative mindset at all times is a challenge.

I say it’s a challenge because not only do you have to deal with the creative world and wanting to make the best shit ever, you also have to deal with the business behind the music. Splits, percentages, sample clearances, blah blah blah.

I like to think I’m in a good position right now because I’ve seen my dawgs, BREGMA & ICECOLDBISBOP break down doors. Passing game down to me, studying every move they make, asking question after question. It’s a blessing. It’s also a domino effect for when I have to pass down game for the rest of the squad.

I’m also gearing up for the release of my project “THEBOOFMOBILE” produced by Bregma with additional production by David Emmanuel. No release date as of right now, just making sure the rollout is efficient.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. LA is more facinated by longevity. We look up to powerful leaders like Top Dawg, Nip, Dom Kennedy and Snoop who are all known for giving back to the city.

Being from Pomona, we don’t have too many leaders. I feel like my city is perfect to set a trend to spark other entrepreneurs and artists to hit the ground running with ideas to inspire the population.
