Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Hinton
Hi Jacqueline , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a deep connection to movement and the arts, which began during my time at the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my BFA in Dance. After moving to Los Angeles, I discovered my passion for Pilates while performing and teaching dance, eventually becoming an instructor at Good Body Pilates Studio. I spent 13 years teaching there and learned so much about the Pilates community. In January 2023, I had the opportunity to purchase the studio and make it my own after teaching for 18 years. Along the way, I created Good Citizen, the world’s first personal Pilates loops, and received recognition as the ‘Most Loved Pilates Studio in Santa Monica.’ Balancing my work in Pilates with my love for the performing arts, I also pursued acting, graduating from the Baron Brown Acting Studio, which opened new doors in the entertainment industry. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come while staying true to my passions.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been full of valuable lessons. When I first started out as a Pilates instructor, balancing my career in the performing arts with teaching was challenging. There were moments of doubt as I juggled auditions, performances, and my dedication to helping clients through Pilates.
Purchasing Good Body Pilates Studio in January 2023 was a dream come true, but it came with its own set of challenges. Transitioning from instructor to owner required a whole new skill set. There were many decisions to be made about the direction of the studio, handling operations, managing staff, and ensuring that clients continued to feel supported. On top of that, 2023 was my first summer as a studio owner, and business was slower than expected, which added financial pressure. I had to find ways to bring clients back without relying on discounts, which forced me to get creative.
Balancing my passion for acting and running a business has also been tricky. Both demand a lot of time and energy, and finding harmony between the two can be tough. But through the ups and downs, I’ve learned the importance of resilience, staying focused, and seeking help when needed. The challenges have shaped me into a stronger leader and a more adaptable person.
We’ve been impressed with Good Body Pilates Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
