Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack D’amico.
Hi Jack, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up on the country side of Suffolk, Virginia. I always had an itch to be moving and actively doing something that involves my whole body and mind. Starting off from the age of 7 taking Tae Kwon Do for the next 6 years. I took a break from that, and after 2 years I needed something to do. I had found people online dancing like a robot and found that really intriguing. So, I asked my mom to sign me up for a class, and that started a love for something I never would even imagine I could make into a career. Years passed and I found ways to capitalize and strengthen my technique and mentality towards this art form. Falling in love with drawing and music along the way, opening up different opportunities and perspectives to this art form. I now attend Joffrey Ballet Schools Jazz and Contemporary program in New York City. Which I will be attending my third year within the program fall of 2025. I’m aspiring to be a multidisciplinary master in all the art forms I touch; drawing, dance, music, film, teaching etc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think a big thing that has gotten in my own way, has been my own mental health. From making my own decisions and facing the consequences or the lack there of them. I used to want to please so many people and noticed I wasn’t pleasing myself. I believe each faze of my life I have faced challenges facing my own purpose, relationships with friends that mean more than the world to me, and the limiting beliefs I set on myself from societies outlook on what is possible and what “is not possible”. A lot of my art that I produce comes from a place of identity where that is with my inner self or where I stand in todays day and age of culture. I continue to have break throughs figuring out who I am each step of the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I claim to be an artist. A human first though. Gotta remember that first! I dance, draw, write poetry, make music, fashion and gathering people together:)I want to make a bright positive difference in this world with my art. I like to choreograph on my free time, I also have a fascination in creating films for dance and real life experiences. Weather that’s captured in dance or moments in life that are not published to the internet. I draw in my own style of cybersigilism. With this doodle style I have been mastering and developing over the years. I bring text in my own font I have developed. Speaking in terms of the issues in today’s world as well with writing down inner dialogue questions, that are related to by others that see it. I have a love for music and the way each frequency touches the souls of people that have never met the artist face to face. There is something so beautiful about the poetry to comes out of the mouth of others that truly fall into the vulnerability that happens to fall into relating to others. I believe, I do that with my poetry, taking from parts of my thought process and agency.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That im originally from the south, country side vibes. Even though my style does not portray that side of me. Wait until you hear my southern hospitality. I’m also an only child, I don’t know if that’s surprising but yeah:)
