Meet Jabe Amato of Whyfret.net

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jabe Amato.

Jabe, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started playing guitar and singing at a young age in southern California. I spent a lot of time in the restaurant service industry as a bartender and a manager while performing at private gigs on the side. After putting in a ton of time gigging, learning new songs and styles and just generally honing my skills, I was able to start my own business called Whyfret.net

I started my company about 9 years ago and within the last two years was able to quit working in the service industry and focus on building my business.

I have always felt that if you go above and beyond the client’s expectations that it will only open up more opportunities for the future. This has certainly been the case for me and now I am finally able to start reaping the rewards.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, anything worth having takes a lot of effort and sacrifice. Starting out I couldn’t really afford all the equipment I needed to do it right. Sometimes I had to borrow equipment or sell some other equipment to buy what I needed.

Of course I had my share of technical difficulties and last minute cancellations and car issues that really catch you off guard. I stayed the course and little by little I was able to afford everything I needed to make myself successful.

Whyfret.net – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
For my business name, I wanted to incorporate something cleverly guitar related. A friend of mine named Ava suggested “Don’t fret.net” which I liked but was already taken and I wasn’t entirely sold on the “Don’t” aspect of it.

So I came up with a line in reference to the old “Got Milk” Ads… “Need live acoustic entertainment? Whyfret.net

I specialize in a solo acoustic guitar and vocal experience. My performances range from subtle background music all the way to a full one-man-band with drums, bass, guitar and vocals. My musical forte would be in the classic rock arena with a ton of 70’s, 80′ and 90’s music. I also play oldies, reggae, some rap and new school music as well.

I generally perform at private parties, corporate events, weddings and a few restaurants and bars.

I am proud of how far I’ve come and proud to know that every gig I’ve done has been a great success and mostly all of my business is from referrals and word of mouth. That takes dedication to amazing service and communication.

What sets me apart is my desire to go above and beyond and always exceed the client’s expectations.

I perform at a ton of weddings and aside for the actual performances, the compliments I get most are for my communication skills, adaptability and attention to detail. When it comes to weddings you have one chance to get it right and for most people, that’s one of the most important days of their lives. With the amount of weddings I’ve been a part of, I’ve learned to ask the right questions and often clued the clients into aspects they didn’t even consider. At the end of the day I treat their event as if it were mine.

Basically, at this point the whole company is just me but I plan to hire and mentor/mold some more talented people to cover all the dates that I’m already booked.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The day I was able to quit my job working for the man…. almost 2 years ago!
