Today we’d like to introduce you to Estefany Rico.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Back in 2022, my daughter’s birthday was just around the corner, and naturally, we wanted to make it a day to remember. We planned some fun activities like a reptile show and a magic show. I wanted to give everyone a special keepsake to take home, so I thought, “How hard could it be to make a DIY Photo Booth?” I had an iPad, printer, and some 4 x 6 photo paper on hand. It wasn’t exactly a professional setup, but it worked just fine. A family member suggested I explore the Photo Booth business, so I decided to give it a try. I started researching, and it was a bit overwhelming, but I also enjoyed learning so much. It took me a couple of months to decide which Photo Booth to pursue. Once I did, I reached out to my favorite podcast hosts, Diosa and Mala (shout out to Locatora Radio), who I listen to. I told them, as a fan, that I’d be happy to offer them a free service to practice and gain experience. Thanks to them, I was able to secure my first two corporate events with payment. I’m forever grateful for that opportunity because I never imagined working with the podcast girls I enjoy listening to, plus a Converse shoe event at the Nike headquarters! It opened up doors to other corporate companies to reach out. The rest is history, and I continue to be fully grateful and proud for all my events, not just the corporate ones, but the private events, the birthdays, and the weddings. I’m truly thankful that all my clients trust me to deliver an amazing Photo Booth experience for them and their guests.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was brought here at the age of 5 from Mexico. It hasn’t been easy, especially with everything that’s going on right now in this country. It has been a struggle to deal with on a daily basis, mentally and emotionally. I continue to find myself looking for ways to overcome the struggles, the obstacles and the judgment. My mom always said if it has a remedy you should be ok and if it doesn’t, then that’s when you should worry” that’s something I’ve kept with me since then. That is the way I view the challenges that I’ve been through, always finding the positive outcome and figuring out how to solve it. Though, it may not always feel like I’m doing the right thing, I’ve done my best for myself to turn a negative experience to a positive in my life. Balancing being a mom, wife, daughter, preschool teacher, and running a whole Photo Booth business is rewarding but also very challenging. I can’t thank enough for my daughter, my husband and my mom for being my cheerleaders in all this. As cliche as it may sound they are my reason to surviving these hard times and enjoying the great times too.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always found it empowering to see life’s opportunities as choices. When I feel like I’m being nudged to take a leap, I’m definitely ready to go for it! I’m still figuring things out, and it can be a bit nerve-wrecking because, as funny as it sounds, I’m a very anxious, shy girl! Phone calls still make me anxious, and being around big groups is a bit overwhelming. Taking risks means stepping outside your comfort zone, and it’s been such a rewarding journey. I’m excited about all the new challenges I’ll face this year!
