Today we’d like to introduce you to ESELISHA ESELISHA.
Hi ESELISHA , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“I’m 19 years old, born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine. I spent my childhood hand-in-hand with my best friends: Kurt Cobain, Chino Moreno, James Hetfield, listening to their albums and drawing inspiration from the culture of rough and grunge vocals and sounds. I would pick chords and sing their songs on the guitar while also attending a music school for piano.
At first, it was just a hobby, a source of inspiration for a little girl. But by the time I was 15, I told myself – ESELISHA – music is your life’s work! And since then, I’ve seriously dedicated myself to my craft.
My father, to whom I’m deeply grateful both for the opportunity to pursue my passion and for the unconditional support I always felt, saved me from the horrors of war by organizing our move to Toronto. Now I live there, but I often visit Kyiv to see my family. This period has been very challenging for me. I’m also incredibly grateful to my listeners and fans who supported my music on social media, who seemed to push me toward success! I’m also very thankful to the haters who didn’t accept or love my sound. You all are my foundation, my driving force, my inspiration.
Also, I love boxing and meditating while listening to real metal!”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“In reality, my life is filled with hardships and challenges, probably like everyone else’s. Some of them I’m not ready to share just yet. It takes time to talk about them. And maybe that time will never come. For example, to earn money to record my first demos, I worked six jobs: I was a cleaner, a barista in two cafés, a waitress in two restaurants, and a hostess (guest relations). And it was truly a challenge, and only my thirst for music helped me keep going.
Of course, it’s the war, which changed everything in my life, and all of my life as well.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
“I’m an alternative singer-songwriter. My music blends emotional intensity, raw vulnerability, and strong female energy.
I write from personal experience and aim to connect with people who feel misunderstood or silenced.
My work is not just about sound — it’s also about atmosphere, honesty, and identity.
I love creating music, and by the time of this interview, I have already released several singles:
Shake
18
friENDs
Happy Again
Anymore
One More Time
Each song is a piece of my life, moments I’ve experienced, impressions, and emotions. For example, in the song “”18″”: The main character of the song has just turned 18, but already feels the pressure of time slipping away. She compares her life to a cycle, where birth, kindergarten, school, career, and education are just stages on the way to the inevitable end. In her head, there’s a constant thought that everything should be “”fine,”” that it’s a normal process of growing up, but inside, the girl is filled with deep fear that youth is fading too quickly.
The song’s lyrics emphasize the automation of life, where everything happens according to a set plan, but it leaves a feeling of emptiness and helplessness. The heroine wants to stop time, forget about it, and live carefree, as she did in childhood when nothing seemed so serious. However, the realization that life isn’t that simple brings her to tears and forces her to hide her true emotions behind a smile, which those around her expect.
The song highlights the conflict between expectations of life and reality, conveying feelings of confusion and fear of an unknown future.
“The song ‘18’ has a grunge-rock-pop-rock style. It’s about time and how quickly it flies. The main character tells us that she’s only 18, but she already fears how quickly time is passing, and doesn’t want to think about the end of the journey. She understands that it’s normal, that we all grow up and won’t be young forever, but it still worries her.”
And the song “One More Time” – this song is very personal and painful. It’s about a relationship where one person manipulates and plays with the feelings of the other, yet that person still tries to save, support, and be there.
At some point, realization comes: enough. No more allowing this to repeat. Despite the weakness and doubt that still lurk deep down – “maybe one more time” – it’s not the same anymore. Something inside changes, strength arises.
This is a song about a boundary after which there is no turning back. It’s about choosing yourself. About the pain that transforms into a new sense of wholeness.
“”Sometimes the hardest thing isn’t forgiving someone, but stopping yourself from expecting them to change. This song is about how to learn to move on, even when something inside still pulls you back.””
So for me, these aren’t just songs – they are a reflection of my life, an audio-reflection of what I’ve experienced, this is my life!”
What are your plans for the future?
“Right now, I’m actively working on new songs. I already have the next four releases planned, and I continue to work intensively in the studio.
We are currently in a phase of rethinking and actively searching for new directions in creativity. The main goal is to shape ESELISHA’s artistic identity more deeply and find a fresh sound that truly resonates with my inner world.
We are not rushing, but working on a solid foundation for the next steps.
I’m also preparing to present my live show next year. So, there are many rehearsals, fittings, special effects, and new music ahead! We plan to do a series of performances at showcases in Europe, Canada, and the US.
There are no specific dates or announcements yet, but we are preparing new material. For us, it’s important not just to release tracks, but to create a cohesive narrative, so the focus right now is on the creative process and finding a unique sound.”
