Meet Erika Luren of Las Vegas, Nevada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Luren.

Hi Erika, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
(my telemedicine company see’s patients in Nevada, California, Utah, Arizona-but based in Nevada).

At some point in all of our careers, we’re likely to hit that pivotal moment, where we question the value of what we have built. Not on a currency level per se, but rather, within the spectrum of catching the ethereal dream…living our soul’s purpose. The moment of such ponderance for me occurred after working over a decade as a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner (NP). I had left a stable job in Ohio, with two small children, a yorkie and husband in tow. I ventured out West, to a land where grey skies and snowstorms would become a distant memory, in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. Although I lost my marriage in the interim of this new life, I stepped into a pivotal point of my womanhood. I needed to rediscover who I was again. I had been a mother, a wife and a “Damn well trained,” Derm NP according to my Steel Magnolia former boss.
But my enthusiasm for the work I had always been so passionate about was wavering in the muddled environmental change of medicine and the glass ceiling I had finally hit. I wanted to learn more, do more and become greater. To expand beyond my comfort zone and become a culmination of my years of experience, secondary master’s in journalism & communications, and a vestige to the spirit I had become. I evolved. I entered a beauty pageant to focus on regaining my femininity and health, won Ms Las Vegas 2015, started a skin care line (Parasol Dermaceuticals) and left my Dermatology position to open my own Med Spa (Parasol Aesthetics, Dermatology & Wellness) and focus further on melding my passion for medicine into written and visual arts via magazine authorship, television, podcasts and radio.
Yet on the heels of all this inertia, was a fall so great, it pulled me into the depths of onyx abyss. My fiancée broke off our engagement and 24 hours later, my brother, my best friend, died of a brain tumor. Then came Covid which chained the doors to my “non-essential business,” closed while in one fail swoop, shredding the last of my savings I had invested in it. Living in a city economically fueled by travel and entertainment, the aesthetic customer base was out of expendable cash and so were our jobs. I then packed up my bags and my kids and left to work in California for a year, only to return to Vegas, as it was truly home in my heart. My income was sourced from various part-time medical jobs as I sat in a state of mental limbo as to my next move. Yet, the internal flame for entrepreneurship beat in my mind like a drum beckoning natives to a fire dance. There was fear, but also the yearning to know my potential under more stable historical times. So, I started moonlighting out of a room in someone’s aesthetic clinic, until my patients overgrew the seating capacity. Then I knew it was time to jump and closed in on a beautiful 1700 square foot clinic with pink & gold marbled concrete floors and romantic accents throughout. I had found home and years of success and contentment with learning, growing, and doing. Nonetheless, toward year five my Midas touch was dampening and demand for aesthetics in a saturated market declining. When I brought in a partner, I thought it would be the onset of fresh energy, new ideas and an eye to add factors I may be missing, to break upward on onward. Sadly though, partnership was not what I had anticipated and was the demise of all I had built.
This felt like the fall of the Roman Empire, in my own little world, but there was nothing I could do but pick up where I had left off during the Covid disaster, working odd jobs and transitioning what I could take from Parasol to the next vision. This brings us to my current state. With the support I’ve had from loyal patients and notoriety in the field, I decided to return to hands-on aesthetics in my own terms, concierge-by appointment only, in a simple room for Aura Aesthetics. I have also rebranded my skincare line from Parasol Dermaceuticals to Auralume Skin Rituals, while keeping brand favorites and adding in a few essentials for night and day. Former Parasol clients who were on peptides, weight loss or Bio-Identical hormones and now new clients, have been transferred to my Wellness and Anti-Aging telemedicine platform, Rolling Wellness. And lastly, I have shifted my focus much more into media as the quarterly Wellness and Beauty author for Chic Compass Magazine, doing Podcasts like “In Heels with Keni Silva,” and on a burgeoning career as a content creator. It’s thrilling to experience a whole new career while still having a foot in the foundation of medicine.
Through all this (and let me tell you there is so much more to the story, but I’ve limited the drama for conciseness), I have learned so much about business, success, failure, my strengths and weaknesses and how to survive after walking through the fire. Although my journey is far from over, the one blessing I can say all this bestowed upon me is self-enlightenment and tapping into my internal power.

ALSO…..HERE IS A MORE GENERALIZED BIO OF MY STORY
For nearly two decades, I have immersed myself in the science of aging, vitality, beauty, and longevity—approaching it from both the inside and the outside. My journey as an entrepreneur began after spending over twelve years working in Dermatology, where I had access to some of the most expensive skincare brands on the market. Despite the luxury price tags, I often felt underwhelmed by the results. At the same time, I saw patients increasingly searching for scientifically backed ingredients and modern anti-aging therapies that were both effective and realistically attainable. That combination inspired me to create my original skincare line, Parasol Dermaceuticals, which has since evolved into my rebranded line, Auralume Skin Rituals. These products remain the foundation of my personal skincare regimen and reflect my philosophy that skincare should feel luxurious while still being grounded in science and results.
As I entered my own middle years, my perspective on beauty evolved even further. I began to recognize that truly youthful skin is not created solely from creams, lasers, or injectables—it is deeply connected to what is happening internally. Hormones, inflammation, metabolism, stress, mitochondrial health, nutrient balance, sleep quality, and overall cellular function all influence how we age. The old saying that “the skin is the window to the body” became increasingly true in my eyes. I realized that the future of beauty was not simply cosmetic enhancement, but rather a fusion of aesthetics, dermatology, functional wellness, hormone optimization, and longevity medicine.
Those ideals led me to open Parasol Aesthetics, Dermatology & Wellness in 2019, a clinic designed to bridge the worlds of beauty and wellness medicine. Within the clinic, I offered advanced cosmetic procedures including botulinum toxins, dermal fillers, PDO threads, lasers, microneedling, chemical peels, and regenerative treatments, while also integrating Dermatology, hormone balancing, medical weight loss, peptides, and functional wellness. My vision was to create a modern anti-aging space where patients could address not only how they looked, but how they felt physically, mentally, hormonally, and emotionally.
In 2025, after bringing on a business partner during the clinic’s final year, I ultimately made the difficult decision to close Parasol when the partnership did not align with my long-term vision. While it was a challenging chapter, it also became the catalyst for a new beginning and a stronger, more focused direction. I relaunched my aesthetic practice as Aura Aesthetics, now operating as an exclusive concierge-style, appointment-only clinic specializing in advanced aesthetic rejuvenation and Dermatology-based cosmetic care. At the same time, I transitioned all of my hormone optimization, peptide therapy, wellness, and medical weight-loss patients into my telemedicine company, Rolling Wellness.
Through Rolling Wellness, I now provide modern wellness and longevity medicine to patients through a highly personalized telemedicine platform focused on medical weight loss, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy for both men and women, peptide therapies, metabolic optimization, anti-aging protocols, supplements, and functional wellness support. My programs integrate therapies such as GLP-1 medications, peptide therapy, hormone balancing, micronutrient optimization, longevity-focused wellness testing, and lifestyle medicine to help patients not only lose weight or improve labs, but truly reclaim vitality and quality of life as they age.
In addition to clinical practice, I have become increasingly involved in media, journalism, and content creation. With a second Master’s degree in Journalism & Communications, I have had the opportunity to serve as a medical expert across television, radio, magazines, podcasts, and public speaking events. Today, I am also a health and beauty content creator, brand affiliate, and medical writer, currently contributing to Chic Compass and other publications. My passion is merging the worlds of Beauty, Wellness Medicine, and Journalism to educate, inspire, and empower people, especially women navigating perimenopause, menopause, aging, confidence, and self-identity.
My mission has never simply been about helping people look younger. It is about helping them feel vibrant, empowered, healthy, confident, and fully alive in every stage of life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not (LOL)….I’m still putting pieces of the puzzle together. At this point, I don’t ever think entrepreneurship is smooth, as change is a constant in any industry. What does become smoother is one’s ability to react appropriately to challenge, problem solving skills, forecasting prowess and knowing when to hold-em or fold-em.

Speaking in particulars, some of the greatest challenges were ones I never anticipated, such as managing employees. I can be quite cerebral, ADD, hyper-focused on assignment completion and very industrious in my work habits. I’m sure much of that is also due to growing up in an impoverished inner city, where I knew the only way out was hard work, grit and using the brain I was blessed with. Although I obtained a full academic scholarship to Ohio State University, I still had housing, books, fees etc to pay for, which required me working three jobs during my collegiate years.

Fast forward to how this affected my managerial skills-I really expected everyone to work as diligent as as I had my whole life. So when employees weren’t performing their job, were very inefficient, needed repeated micro-managing to get them to complete assignments, it really felt more like I was home with my kids trying to get them to do chores. However, these were not kids, they were full grown adults and I would have thought the resistance stage was left back in their teen years. Understanding and catering to the adult psyche in relation to job duties, learning abilities, intellectual hindrances, motivation and team morale was my biggest lesson going from a solopreneur to a small business owner. I then understood why larger employers are now implementing Myers-Briggs Type Indicators to assist with selection of the right fit employee for the business culture.

Secondary challenges were learning how to be a business owner in general, considering this was my first! Being in the medical profession, this is not something we learn in school, but rather, learn on-the-go. The most integral concepts I adopted were related to finance and accounting. Not only was my business at the mercy of my ability to cost contain, but also affected by the seasonal rhythms of the industry-slow summers when individuals were on vacation meant ensuring winters I put cash in reserve to cover the anticipated revenue drop. But then even economic and political occurrences affected my business by altering the lens through which citizens were viewing safety of the market, job stability, and concerns over inflation which bottom-line affected their disposable income and therefore my income.

And then there was adjusting pricing in relation to COGs, vendor sourcing, keeping up with pharmaceutical and state board legalities in flux and the revolving world of finding a decent marketing company that would not overpromise and under or never deliver (sore spot…).

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I graduated with a Master’s degree in Family Practice as an NP with a post graduate specialty focus in Dermatology and a Master’s degree in Journalism and Communications. Within Dermatology, funny enough, I was forced to learn Aesthetic injectables, as another provider was needed to service our expanding clientele demands (I was not fond of the idea at all, as I thought these would be extremely particular patients (ie, “pains in the toosh). However, I ended up loving it! Aesthetics is this perfect fusion of right and left brain. It requires a thorough knowledge of skin science, which I had plenty of, doing surgical procedures in Derm and intricately knowing deep structures. But it also requires an artistic eye, which reminded me very much of the clay sculpting class I took in college and loved.

Assisting people to look and feel beautiful is such an positive energetic exchange that is markedly different than dealing with disease states. Although it was an unexpected interest, it became a blessing. Over the years as I became enmeshed in the field, it propelled my inquisitive nature of how else I could improve human physiologic decline from the inside, not just the outside.

Therein was the third prong in creating an archetype for the unique blending of medicine I would soon practice-Dermatology + Aesthetics + Functional Wellness. I literally ensconced the pyramid of anti-aging ‘skin deep,’ hitting all key points. This was a pivotal point; Taking a layered approach from the knowledge of over two decades in these industries to reimagine how I was treating aging. It was no longer only about looks, but skin integrity, health, body composition, hormonal regulation, emotive stabilizing, heightened metabolism, sensitized cellular function, enhanced recovery, power, strength and decreased risk for chronic disease. This was truly beautiful. This was literally a dial for the hands of time and the approach I have implemented within Rolling Wellness Telemedicine.

For patients of Rolling Wellness I take a concierge approach to taking a deep dive into their medical history, symptomatic discernment, blood laboratory levels-including hormones and then matching with appropriate prescription and naturopathic treatments to elevate their well-being. I also include guidance on diet and exercise to boost efforts and maintain long term goals. And on top of it all, once my patients hit their weight loss, hormone balancing or vitality goals, I can then bring them in clinic to top of their transformation with correction of common dermatological concerns (acne, rosacea, pigmentation) and youth-defy them with Botulinum Toxin or Fillers. It’s the triple threat!

Although, this has been a difficult road restarting, I really believed it has pushed me into my niche and helped me to realize I love the one-on-one interaction with patients, but without the hectic pace of a large clinic. Bigger is not always better, rings so true to me.

Nonetheless, there is still more to this story. That Journalism & Communications degree was far from being accomplished in vain. Through-out the time I was working on my businesses, I was also dipping my toes into healthy & Beauty media. The fervor for the triad of my niche was noted by the community, news stations, magazines, podcasts and radio, wherein I became a guest expert, followed by my own authorship, on-camera hosting and now social media content creation. This was the epitome of melding my worlds to an epic level of right and left brained hemispheres! As of present, Wellness & Beauty media has become my main focus, whilst I still maintain active care of my Aura Aesthetics Clinic and Rolling Wellness clients by appointment only. Oh, and I have a rebranded skincare line too, Auralume Skin Rituals soon to relaunch (at this point I’m guessing you can see where the ADD comes to the forefront;) But life should be this exciting, challenging, thought provoking and the catalyst of achieving self-actualization, if done the right way.

My Company Rolling Wellness (website summary)
What’s Our Why?

Rolling Wellness was founded to offer alternatives to an outdated model of healthcare based purely on disease. Through the utilization of Functional Wellness and Longevity Medicine, we can provide a vital adjunct to the status quo of “Sick Care” in exchange for “Well Care.” Our foundation rests on the principle that the body has innate potential for repair and vitality when supported with therapies that mirror its own biology.

By utilizing derivatives that are biosimilar to those naturally synthesized within the body, we target the stop-gaps in the aging process and amplify youth-promoting biologic functions. This approach moves beyond the broken model of masking symptoms with medications, instead empowering individuals to prevent disease, restore balance, and extend healthspan with regenerative care.

Founded by Erika Luren, MA, MS, NP, as a passion project started in her doctoral thesis program, Rolling Wellness broaches a futuristic approach to well-being despite time or space. Through secure telemedicine video visits, patients across the U.S. can gain access to regenerative and anti-aging treatments, functional health coaching, and prescription-based therapies—all from the comfort of home.

This vision is the fruition of seeing beyond today’s limitations, inspired by forward-thinking leaders and scientific pioneers. We celebrate anti-aging and longevity medicine not only as a scientific breakthrough but as a movement for the common good—empowering men and women to live longer, healthier, and more vibrant lives.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned, is that the character of any great story will navigate moments of triumph and challenge. The lows can be really low, but the highs can be so sweetly elevated. One must be mentally and emotionally invested in their path and resilient enough to climb out of the onyx abyss in full faith, that the light will always greet them. Through all I’ve been through, it truly was finding my path back to God, my faith in him and faith within myself to keep going.
