Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Santiago
Hi Eddie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It was right after Covid and I my 22 yr old Son was dealing w/ some depression. We both love sports and anything that involves sports so a great friend of mine and I had the idea of starting a sports podcast that was less restrictive and more opinionated than your mainstream channels . We felt like not all masculinity is toxic masculinity and that was the space we were trying to fill in the sports media.
My co- host drives almost 2 hours from Castaic every Wed and Friday to do the show along with a cast of my Son 26 yrs old
2 of my youngest sons CJ 22 yrs old , Eddie $ 22 yrs old who are the technical side of the show.
We Love to argue and debate , sometimes over the top but in the end we can handle differences and debate and still be friends .
This is what our Country was built on and we’ve lost a lot of that. People should be able to disagree and still be able to be civilized.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has never been smooth ! Logistically it’s 5 people coming from all different parts of Los Angeles. That’s the 1st obstacle. The other are the obvious ones. Money, knowledge, opinions, technology, and motivation. It’s tough to continually sacrifice time effort and money when there’s no guarantee for profits or even if you’re opinions and message are falling on def ears.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My so called 9-5 job is Local 300 Laborers Union which I’ve been a member for 26 years. So the transition to Social Media and Podcasting was an awkward one.
I guess what I’m most proud of is I’ve made this commitment and I set out to build something. I’ve had many other ideas and projects in the past and my Wife and 4 kids have seen them either never get started or just fizzle out quickly. We are almost at 100 episodes and built a fan base cause we’ve been consistently there every week. I’m proud that I have shown commitment and perseverance through a ton of obstacles. My Kids are proud to say “hey you gotta check out my Dad’s Podcast it’s hilarious and great” . As a 51 yr old Dad I’ve shown that I can take a risk and have some type of success.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be believe in yourself, find people around you that have Big Dreams as well and most importantly. JUST START !!! You will not be perfect in fact it might be horrible. Our 1st episode wasn’t even watchable because of streaming issues. We continue to grow and get better every week. Work out the kinks as you go
