Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Jacobson and Adam Bachenheimer of Jacobson & Bach Associates.
Drew & Adam met years ago through Drew’s now wife of 3 years. Drew was in the hospitality industry and operated many successful cocktail lounges & restaurants in Los Angeles. Adam was involved in a successful streetwear brand called The Originators which had their flagship store on Melrose & Curson in LA.
One summer afternoon, Adam’s cell phone rang and it was Drew on the other line. Drew was calling to let Adam know that he recently became an agent and was currently at Keller Williams Hollywood Hills. Drew asked Adam if he was interested in selling his home. Adam communicated to Drew that he wasn’t in the market to sell his home but that he was currently studying for his Real Estate exam and obtaining his license. Adam asked Drew if he had any questions regarding the exam process, could he call him?… Most graciously, Drew assisted Adam through the exam process, and then assisted him in joining the team at KW.
Once at KW, Drew and Adam’s vision began to grow by the day. They immersed themselves in the process because they felt that they had the skills and relationships to be very successful at this, and become leaders in the industry. Through a lot of hard work, many up and downs, the dynamic duo, now known as Jacobson & Bach Associates, specializes in off and on market residential and commercial properties, and work with some of LA’s top Developers, Investors, Sellers & Buyers. Jacobson & Bach believe that with a lot of hard work, attention to detail, out of the box thinking, and persistence, anything is achievable.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with anything, it takes time to acclimate to a new situation or work environment. It definitely took us time to really understand our new business and feel comfortable in it. Part of feeling good about a new work situation is having that new work situation fit into your lifestyle, so to speak. We struggled with this at the beginning. Drew was his own boss in the hospitality business, as I mine, in the fashion business.
At the beginning, instead of focusing on what fit our lifestyle, Drew & I immersed ourselves in all things real estate. As a young agent, it’s difficult to create new business. Drew & I were definitely ready for the business but didn’t have much of a clue on how to get it. We would sit across from one another at our desks with all the energy in the world and ask ourselves, “what do we do now?”
We both had real estate in our blood but there were definitely struggles early on that eventually made us better agents. It is in the struggle that one really realizes and defines their craft. As we began to get our feet underneath us, we knew that we needed to join forces. I think we both felt that we were good by ourselves, but better together. We began working with one another on the daily, presenting off-market opportunities to our joined client list. We struggled for a couple more months before we decided to leave KW in search of brighter pastures.
It’s interesting how things happen, or how fate can play into things. Drew and I ended up taking a meeting with an agent that we had never met from another company regarding an off-market property. You never know where you’re best, or next business opportunity may come from, and that is why it’s important to keep your options open and always be kind to others.
This meeting turned into our next opportunity as we were introduced to Maurice & Bethany Woolf over at Californian Estates. Maurice was an industry heavyweight that looked at the business from a unique and innovative perspective. Maurice taught us what value-add truly meant, and how to properly break down a property as a developer would. This added value for us, and separated us from the pack. Maurice became the mentor that we both needed.
We talk about how far we’ve come. We always laugh about the early years, sharing stories about the time this happened, or the time that happened. And we never forget where we came from. It is through the tough times that the good times are truly appreciated. We’re sure there will be more struggles. But we’re also more confident then ever that those struggles will turn into successes.
