Meet Dr. Nadia of Cocoon Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nadia Fakhoury.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Central Florida as the daughter of a chiropractor. As a young child, it was completely normal for me to get regular adjustments from my dad and spend time around his clinic. I was always passionate about health and working with people, so when I started college, I began taking courses on the pre-med track. I soon realized I lived a more natural lifestyle and Western medicine would not be the best fit for me.

That’s when I made the big move to California to attend Life Chiropractic College West in the Bay Area. After briefly practicing in San Francisco, I moved to Los Angeles and opened Cocoon Chiropractic. My practice is focused on care for pregnancy, postpartum, and children.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I opened my practice in February 2020 just weeks before the initial shelter in place order was issued for COVID-19 —some timing, right? I had to let go of the office space I was renting (and find a new home for the 17 plants I had in it) and transfer my practice to mobile visits in-home while searching for a new office location. But something else started to happen — more and more people requested mobile chiropractic sessions because they did not feel comfortable going to an office or because their kids were doing virtual school, which made leaving their homes more difficult. For the last several months, I have been exclusively doing in-home visits all over Los Angeles and surrounding areas. I have loved it! I enjoy spending more time working with my clients and the variety that my daily schedule has. I believe I’ll eventually settle into an office, but for now mobile has been working wonderfully for my clients and myself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
When I discovered my passion for working with children, pregnancy, and postpartum I jumped headfirst into learning how to best serve this community. Nearly every weekend you could find me in some sort of continuing education course. I am a certified prenatal & infant craniosacral therapist, prenatal yoga instructor, doula, BIRTHFIT® leader, vaginal steam facilitator, and Spinning Babies® practitioner. I am one of the only local chiropractors who are CACCP certified in advanced prenatal and pediatric care. When working with an individual, I am able to draw from my diverse skill set to give them the best possible care. This includes ensuring their physical wellbeing while also providing clients with education on how to optimize the full potential of their bodies.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I have had many chiropractors and chiropractic students reach out to me with interest in starting their own mobile practice, and I am seeing this become an increasingly popular option. I believe the new generation of doctors is attracted to the simplicity of it. If you have a car, a portable table, a system for documenting patient notes and receiving payments — you have most of your bases covered. The overhead is much lower than renting or owning an office, you do not need to commit to a specific neighborhood, and you are providing a unique, personalized concierge experience.
