Today we’d like to introduce you to Denfield Jones.
Denfield, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
CVS Radio1 started in Los Angeles, California in 2008. I started off with a 15min show then I started recording 30 mins shows. As a kid in Belize. “I would open the back of my Dads radio to see how the music was being played. How ironic, my curiosity led to my introduction into radio. I finished grade school in Belize with high honors and graduated from National Technical Schools in TV & Radio. I came to the US in the 90s to pursue a musical career. Then i started off with a FM radio gig that did not turn out to be what I expected. I realized that internet radio was the right path for me, I had to find the right software to establish my station with more features. I’ve always been interested in radio hosting, live broadcast and radio programming.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle have been the technical side to the radio station. I started with a low budget to maintain and support what I wanted to do. The technical issues for example and the software required. Understanding the levels to a thorough radio station. Setting up the relationships with ASCAP and BMI. I’ve been attempting to interview new artists and it’s been a long journey to this point. Also to keep the programming of the station up to date. In the beginning it was a learning curve due to my inexperience. Overall I’ve been able to find solutions to my struggles. It has not been a smooth road only a tough one but that’s what comes with a vision.
Please tell us about CVS Radio1.
CVS Radio1 is the number one up and coming online radio station in Orange County providing roots reggae, outer national hits and 90s dancehall. I specialize in radio programming, radio hosting, and live broadcasting. I’m most known for my musicianship, touring traveling the world with iconic reggae artists. I’m most proud of the consistency thats required to keep the radio station going. What sets me apart from the rest is that I built the station from the ground up. My experience on tour with various reggae artists has given my station an authentic identity.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I want to say thanks to DJ Cool Ruler 92.9 KJEE in Santa Barbara for the words of advice and encouragement. My Father for the musical foundation, I received knowledge and understanding as a young man. Also, Empress Akua who is an artist who gives positive supports to CVS Radio1. Lastly, Ryan Verneuille from The Ryan Show FM in New York for adding me to their network. It exposed me to a bigger radio audience, he reached out and acknowledged my potential.
