Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAndra Giselle.
Thanks for sharing your story with us DeAndra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a hairstylist for 11 years and an educator for five years. I started doing hair after I went to college for Public Relations and Advertising. I graduated worked in that field for two years and realized it wasn’t for me. I always loved doing hair, I mean I was late for my own senior prom because I was doing hair and makeup! I finally went to cosmetology school and found my purpose. I absolutely love doing what I do. I am an extension specialist and a business coach for hairstylists.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I went to cosmetology in Federal Way, WA and then moved to LA. I had to build a clientele here and I really didn’t know anyone. I also owned a salon that I closed down because it wasn’t as profitable as I wanted it to be, and also I found that I wanted to explore other avenues in this industry. I have had several mistakes, which I like to call lessons learned. So my struggles were finding where I fit in the LA hair industry, building a clientele, and finding my support system.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an extension specialist and I am also a business coach for hairstylist. My clients know me for my professionalism and my skills in making extensions look natural while keeping their hair healthy. A few years ago, I was in a YouTube video “White Girls Wear Weave For the First Time” and it went viral! Over 1 million views in a month. After that, I become the go to person for extensions.
My glampreneurs, as I like to call them (hairstylists friends) know me as the go to person for business building skills and strategies. I have always helped my peers build their business because of my background but I recently made it another part of my business. I launched a free online course and rolls around once a quarter, and I am working on my academy (medium and flagship course) currently.
What sets me apart from most is I am creative but still very business savvy.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I don’t believe in the role of luck. To me, that sounds like things just happen out of the blue or randomly. Everything happens out of consequence whether good or bad. So I believe in hardwork, persistence, dedication, sacrifice, and prayer. I know that mindset also plays a huge role. To ensure I have a positive mindset I read motivation books, surround myself with positive people, and try to have downtime with family and friends.
