Today we’d like to introduce you to David Boehne.
Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born into a surf family, My parents Steve and Barrie are champion Tandem surfers and pioneers in the surf world who have been recognized for their contributions to surfing with a statue in the Waterman’s Plaza here in Dana Point. My parents started our family surfboards business Infinity Surfboards in 1970. I’ve always have been a creative and knew I wanted to take over the business someday so I went to learn everything I could about the surf industry, design, marketing by working with and for high pro-file surf athletes and companies. In 2020 I officially took over the business from my parents and am the active Creative Director and CEO.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I always took opportunity as it came. You have to be willing to go for it and take risk to uncover the next journey. This has led me to several different positions in design, marketing, athlete management, and even media.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Shred & Speed MFG Co. is a surf, stand up paddle, and lifestyle manufacturing company which currently owns Infinity Surfboard Co. , Infinity SUP, and HYSB (Have You Seen Blurr).
We specialize in manufacturing custom Surfboards, Stand Up Paddleboards, Apparel and technical accessories that compliment our other brands.
We are known as a California legacy surfboard brand and a leader in the Stand Up Paddle space. What sets us apart is there are not many brands that can do both Surf and SUP. We are one of the few that cross over with respect from both core audiences.
We are really proud of the history of the brand and legacy we have built. My parents started Infinity Surfboards in 1970 and we’ve managed to build on that with over 50,000 board produced with over 50 years of being in business as a family owned brand feels pretty good.
If you are looking for something custom and unique and specifically tailored for you. We do that. We specialize in innovation and custom builds and one of a kind surfboards and paddle boards we like to call “functional art”

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the shaping room and at the beach. My father Steve is a master shaper and a legend in the craft. My mother Barrie along with my Dad are legends in the sport of surfing as they are World Champion Tandem Surfers and pioneers of California surf culture.
I’ve always been a creative interested in design and creating art and graphics. Anything branding and telling a story with each product is super fun for me.
I was obsessed with surfing but really had a diverse set of friends and interests. I would surf all day then go to punk and hardcore shows at night. Play music or skateboard was something I did a lot of as well. That culture just breeds creativity, adventure and self independence.
