Meet Dana Claudat of The Tao of Dana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Claudat.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
An illness landed me at home 11 years ago with no place to go for months while I healed from the effects of my creative hustle lifestyle. I realized I had no idea who lived in my home— no art on the walls, barely unpacked after a year— and I googled Feng Shui to see if there was anything that could be “magical” in helping me heal while I fixed up my space. What I found was a scientific, more grounded school of Feng Shui — Pyramid School— and I decided to start studying to help myself. A Tumblr blog started as a whim, a ton of research after my own Feng Shui coincided with enormous life breakthroughs and a series of meetings and synchronicities, and here I am as a Feng Shui Master with a global endeavor of writing, design, speaking and Feng Shui, totally unexpectedly.

Has it been a smooth road?
Fairly? I think I felt less stress because I have a low ability to physically handle stress and because I was committed to building this organically. I also had a job for half the time I was building it because I wanted zero pressure- always- to make money.

Trailblazing in a relatively new field was super-fun, but it was a lot of explaining to people, to press, to everyone I knew (!) what Feng Shui really is!

It’s more known now – which is fantastic— but it was a ton more education to make people aware that this was a real thing- and ancient art- and that changing your home can actually catalyze and support giant life changes.

I guess the biggest struggle was when I knew what I was building- including the online Camps I teach all year addressing Clutter, Love & Money— I wanted to do it all immediately and it was a practice in patience and a steep learning curve to do it all and get it done the way I wanted it to be. Connected, creative and fun. I was so restless it dragged on me to be patient and move step-by-step at a certain point!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a modern Feng Shui master, designer & writer. I think I can say with certainty that I’ve evolved into a Creative Catalyst. My work is about helping people gain more sense of cause and purpose, direction and empowerment by deliberately designing their environment and their lifestyle in intentional ways.

In essence, people come to design their dream lives. I don’t do it for them, but together we come up with the framework and all fabulous details.

I’m known in part for my high-touch, super-intimate (yet very large) online Feng Shui Camps— Cash Camp (money), Catalyst Camp (clutter) and Love Camp (love)— and in part for my writing (my blog is The Tao of Dana) and instructing at Mind Body Green as well as other major design and lifestyle blogs. I taught myself about eight years ago through many many free online consultations with strangers to work online with Feng Shui and design as proficiently as I do in person. So, it’s a particular thrill that in a month I will work with people on homes that are sometimes in four different Continents.

I really don’t know anyone who does what I do- especially not in the way that I do it. My work is so much storytelling and a mix of art and Feng Shui, I don’t know that I’d ever put my work up beside a Feng Shui consultant and compare because I do something that’s more my own now. More art and less structure. More freedom and deeply awesome results.

So, I can’t tell you what sets me apart beyond the fact that I am very deeply committed to constantly learning and sharing new ways to make life gorgeous, and I share them in my own ways!

I am most proud of my online family in the Camps— I am proud of them for how they support each other and love one another— I’m not proud of them for my own accomplishment. I created the space. They bring the magic.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
For wellness, this is one of the best places to be at the moment. If the city were to improve, it would be to provide more artist housing and more resources so that it remains a place where artists can thrive and develop and afford to stay here.
