Today we’d like to introduce you to Damiyon Morgan.
Damiyon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a rapper/actor/entrepreneur from Los Angeles, California. From an early age, I’ve always been drawn to music. Hip-Hop in particular. It wasn’t until the age of 13 when I started participating in school talent shows that I found out I was any good. After graduating from high school I attended the L.A. Recording School. Where I learned how to make beats, mixing, mastering, songwriting, and even took a vocal class. I later released my first project “Soul of a Hustla”, then followed with my second project “Invincible.” I stepped away from music for a while to venture into acting. I’ve taken acting classes and hired the best coaches to enhance my craft. I’m so excited for that endeavor. Now I’m back to doing music and currently working on my third project “Double or Nothing.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth at all. But life is full of obstacles, and I embrace them all and learn from them. I believe everything happens for a reason, good and bad. I remember having to work a part-time job while going to school full time just to pay for studio time while helping my family financially. Also coming up as a new artist, I remember performing in front of a crowds of maybe ten people, just to get a chance to perform. And because I was a new artist I heard the word “No” a lot. So I had to learn how to deal with rejection by staying positive and taking “No” for an answer.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My current focus right now is to challenge myself lyrically and have the audience hear my creativity. I want the audience to visualize my stories just by hearing my words, with metaphors, punch lines, and even with good delivery. I believe working with the right producers, having a great support system, and with the grace of God, I can bring something special and different to hip-hop. I also want to one-day launch my own record label “Ride or Die Records.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe luck played a factor as far as being at the right place at the right time for certain opportunities I’ve gotten in the past. But other than that, definitely the grace of God, hard work, dedication, consistency, and patience is what really got me this far.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I remember one Christmas my mother bought me a karaoke machine, and that was the exclamation point for my love for music. I would play that thing all night pretending to be that artist on a big stage somewhere. And even though that wasn’t true, it didn’t matter. That was my escape from reality. I didn’t worry about not having clothes or not having food. I was worry-free. And even though I didn’t understand it then, I appreciate it now. Because it made me the person I am today, and it gave me the tools I need to succeed in the entertainment world. I know making it in the music industry isn’t going to be easy. But anything easy isn’t worth doing.
