Meet Daé Dream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daé Dream.

Daé Dream

Hi Daé, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi, I’m Daé Dream, a 27-year-old singer/ songwriter from Columbus, Georgia. A shy spirit, I have always had a strong fire for music. I wrote my first song ever at the age of 9, and 2024 marks 18 years of songwriting which I think makes me sound ancient. My earliest memories of music would be car rides with my mom where she would blast the whole Dangerously In Love – Beyoncé album. Those smooth R&B/ Soul/ Funk melodies shaped me into who I am today and explains why I’m OBSESSED with Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. As I grew, I started listening and creating the playlist of my life which included artists like Brandy, Musiq Soulchild, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, and Usher. I moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to San Diego in 2022 on a whim as it’s been my dream to move to Cali since I can remember watching That’s So Raven as a kid, so I think I manifested it in a way. Since then, I’ve been working on music, creating and performing anywhere I can! My recent EP released November 8th, 2023, entitled “Malice in Loversland,” which I describe as an epic score of love and cinema. I really had a vision to create a concept EP that told a story from beginning to end. I crafted every lyric to mean something to me based on my own experience, my friends and families’ experiences, and just things I imagined, and I’m very proud of it. There are 8 songs 3 of which are titled after some of my favorite movies like ‘Silver Slippers Interlude’ (Wizard of Oz), ‘Uma’s Sermon’ (Kill Bill), and ‘Malice In Loversland’ (Alice In Wonderland). I am very proud of the project, and I think it showcases my roots in R&B but also takes some experimental choices in which I’d like to explore more of into the future. I’m excited to release new music soon. I’m releasing another EP in the Summer, and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do! My dream is to sell out arenas and inspire millions as my role models did before me. I have so much more I would like to accomplish, and I am brightly looking towards the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road; growing up, I faced a lot of hardships. One thing that really scared me moving forward in music was the idea of not making it far as a queer artist. In the South, it was looked down upon and really hurt my self-esteem as a kid. I felt as if I didn’t see very many positive role models like me I could relate to growing up. It was very hard after I moved away to really find my identity and who I wanted to be. I had to do some real digging to find that inner child within me to let him know that you are unique, kind, brilliant, talented, and deserving of all the love that everyone else has. And when I found that, I knew that I could do anything that I set my mind to. If there’s one thing I’d like people to take from me, it’s that you can do ANYTHING if you believe, and it is not about where you’ve been or what you’ve been through; it’s about where you’re going and what you will do!!! Amen!!!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I first graduated high school, I joined the U.S. Navy and worked as a Yeoman (Administration) for 4 years before transitioning to Logistics. In those years it really taught me discipline and the art of having honor, courage, and commitment. It gave me structure and helped in becoming who I am today. The Navy provided so many opportunities for both my professional and music career. In that time, I directed a gospel choir, sung for many Navy Events, released a mixtape entitled “888”, I opened up for the late PnB Rock, and also assisted in writing for other Artists. Being in the military really gave me confidence, support, and stability and opened my eyes to seeing that there was so much more to be seen other than my city and the things confined within it. I also think that added training and discipline sets me apart from others, in a way I saw it as artist development!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice to up-and-coming artist would to be to charge ahead! It’s scary starting off for everyone, but with consistency, time, practicing, and just showing up, you can achieve your dreams. The first step is to just do it, take every day, one day at a time, and don’t let the anxiety of not being where you want to control your ability to live in the now. There is no other time but now!!! Make the most of your life because it belongs to you, and only you can determine where you go! 💜
