Meet Cynthia Bullard of Ventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Bullard.

Hi Cynthia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Cynthia Bullard, the owner and photographer at Cynthia Bullard Photography. I’m a Wife, Mom, New Grandma, Dog Mom, and Sports Mom!

Based in Ventura County, California, I’ve had the pleasure of helping families capture generational images for more than 30 years (I know, I don’t look that old right?!) I started in photography shortly after high school when I signed up for a black-and-white film class at Ventura College. As soon as I picked up my manual Pentax camera, loaded the film, and started taking images, I was hooked!

My love for photography began long before I ever picked up a camera. As a little girl, I would sit on the floor at my grandmother’s house, completely absorbed in albums filled with old photographs. Years later, my world changed forever when my mother was killed in a car accident at just 38 years old. I was only 14. In the quiet that followed, I realized how few photographs we had of my mother as an adult. That loss is what fuels my mission to ensure your family’s story is preserved in beautifully printed images—meant to be cherished, displayed, and lived with, not forgotten on a phone. Because one day, without warning, photographs stop being “just pictures”.

You will never truly know how important those photographs are until they are all you have left.

Let’s create photographs that will hang on your walls for generations to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a business owner is never a smooth road. Anyone who appears to be an ‘overnight success’ has been practicing their craft for years behind the scenes. The struggle has always been to stand out of the crowd in a sea of ‘photographers’, particularly when everyone has a camera on their smart phone these days.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve had the honor of photographing families in Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties for more than 30 years, and my work has always centered on people and the relationships that matter most. I specialize in portrait photography—maternity, newborns, families, headshots and milestone moments. I especially love walking alongside families from the very beginning.

One of my signature offerings is my Baby’s First Year Program, which allows me to document that incredible first year of life—from maternity to newborn and beyond. These images aren’t just photographs; they become heirlooms that families treasure for generations.

What truly sets me apart is the personalized, boutique experience I offer. Every client receives a red-carpet welcome and is personally guided before, during, and after their session. I take the time to understand their vision, help them feel comfortable in front of the camera, and ensure the final images reflect who they truly are. And, we have a ton of fun in the process. No stiff posing, but gentle guiding with connection and humor to capture those genuine smiles.

When it comes to newborns, safety is always my top priority. I hold newborn safety certifications, and parents can feel confident knowing their baby is in experienced, caring hands. My goal is not only to create beautiful portraits, but to provide a calm, trusting, and memorable experience from start to finish.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love where we live! We get to enjoy the best weather year-round and our beaches are incredible. We have such a great variety of sporting events and activities throughout Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange Counties – you can always find something fun to do.

What I like least about our city is probably the homeless issue, which really impedes our ability to safely walk our city at night and really enjoy the night life.
