Today we’d like to introduce you to Curt “Kirkee B.” Bisquera.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Curt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Santa Maria CA. just a few hours North of Los Angeles and I started playing drums at the age of 3…. got my first “Tony The Tiger” drumset when I was 5 then got a professional Ludwig drumkit at age 6 after I bashed and broke the Tony The Tiger drums, I played nightclubs throughout my high school years and saved up money to attend Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA a year after high school.
Graduated 3 weeks early from a year-long course at M.I. to audition and get the gig playing drums with Morris Day and the Time. and from that point on from 1985, I have been a professional drummer. I also write, perform and produce music for various artist, TV and film.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s pretty much been a smooth road but like in any creative business, there are pitfalls…. solely based on the “flavour” or “technology” of the day. The Internet killed the music industry because of the “sharing” aspect BUT, there have been some headway to Congress to get royalties paid to artist that have recorded before 1974… (I believe) which can help those artists monetarily but also get real music and musicians making quality music again… and… get paid properly for it! I’m obviously skimming a stone on this topic but, I’m not complaining… I’m just concerned about this industry I chose that I know and love. Thus far… I am blessed and lucky to have the career I still carry! 🙂
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Curt “Kirkee B.” Bisquera – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a drummer that started recording on 2″ tape and making the transition from analog to digital. My recording career started in 1990 with the great help from the legendary drummer Jeff Porcaro. (Toto, Steely Dan, Sonny and Cher, etc. 😉
I compose music under the name CMB and have had some success in writing and producing music. My music Co., “Kirkee B. Music” showcases not only my talents as a drummer but also a bass player, keyboard player and producer, along with being able to stay current on the ever-changing scene of technology on how music is made and heard. the internet is the vessle in which all music flows these days… as well as the live performance of course!
I’m proud that I can produce music on my own without having to rely on others. I can do it at any time of the day or night and remain creative, creating music that is “drum-centric” by today’s standards.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Well… I am venturing into the “guitar pedal” market. I helped co-create a “bass envelope filter” for bass and guitar players. A guitar pedal designed by a drummer you ask???
Well…. sitting next to world-class bass players for over 25+ years, I know what I like to hear and feel from bass and guitar players. Visit: www.westcopedals.com for more details
