Meet Courtney Khoshafian of The La Canada Cheese Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Khoshafian.

Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The La Canada Cheese Shop is the 3rd company I’ve started. I have a Masters Degree in Entrepreneurship & Innovation from The University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. I was born & raised in La Canada but Moved to the Bay Area with my husband after business school. While I was in the Bay, I ran community and events at Runway Innovation Hub. While advising startups and guiding them to follow their dreams and passions- I decided to take my own advice. I started studying cheese online and at the Cheese School of San Francisco. I tried to go to every industry event and learn as much as I could. I started a cheese blog to share my passion. After moving back to So Cal, I buckled down, made a business plan and opened the LC Cheese Shop.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Coronavirus hit right when we had put in our offer for our storefront location. With all the cities being shut down- permits and negotiations were super delayed. The lease ended up falling through so we have been just using a cloud kitchen and delivering. We are hoping to open the retail location soon and have a bid out on a few more places but It has been really hard to optimize delivery only options.

Please tell us about The La Canada Cheese Shop.
The La Canada Cheese Shop is a specialty cut to order cheese shop. We carry all types of imported and local cheese and charcuterie as well as a full bakery with baguettes, bagels, croissants and cookies. We do in person and online tasting classes as well as full-service event catering.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have loved cheese my whole life but as a child- my little sister and I would make and taste-test every kind of macaroni and cheese we could find.
