Meet Colleen McClafferty of INspaLA Mobile Wellness Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen McClafferty.

Colleen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story in Beauty begins at birth. Both my grandmother and my mother are cosmetologists. My grandmother Blanche was the first women to own her own business in our small Pennsylvania town, and my mother followed in her footsteps. Everyone in town came to Blanche’s to get their “hair done” and of course all the trimmings like nails and skin care. If fact, my Granny’s beauty salon was actually built into the front of their home, so you could say I literally grew up in the business. But owning my own beauty business was not the plan. Off to college, I went with majors in English and Spanish and a minor in Education my thoughts had been to continue working in childcare. Of course, as life would have it plans changed. I finished college and took off to sunny California for an adventure and took a temp job working for MCI-Worldcom that lead into a whirlwind career that brought me from Office Manager, to Major Account Manager, to Regional Manager of Client Services, then onto a National Director o Operational Standards, and finally an International Director of Quality Assurance and new data center launches throughout Europe. Throughout my journey, I’d been a cheerleader for 14 years and then a Student Athletic trainer in college, all these experiences had given me a close-up perspective of the workings of the body and how that health and preventative wellness worked overtime. I could see that truly self-care is the only fountain of youth! Eventually, the industry I was working for had become volatile so I requested a voluntary layoff and took off to Europe for one year on a self-funded journey into self, very eat pray love style before that was even a concept in our minds. When I came back to the states I went inward to find what would be a true calling to my soul, rather than feeding the corporate monster I wanted to bring health and wellness to the masses. This lead to the development of INspaLA in 2004 we launched and have never looked back.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our industry has seen a massive shift since our launch in 2004 when websites were new and unchartered territory. The mobile spa concept was, and still is to some, a new an innovative concept that needed to be explained and introduced to society. That was one major obstacle we’ve always faced… we don bring a truck…we come to you… our motto is… You Provide the Space, We Do the Rest! still, some people have a hard time with the concept.

The path in business has never run smooth, or everyone would do it I suppose, but our main challenges are the same as most finding and keeping customers away from competitors. We try to highlight our 12-year experience as well as my corporate background to establish a standard with clients.

We offer everything from massage, hair, nails, skincare and makeup to yoga, personal trainers, healthy cooking lessons, life coaches, intuitive services, chiropractic, and acupuncture all in the convenience of your home or office. Our latest services include business wellness services which can be offered to employees as benefits and also our membership programs for regular services we offer great discounts. We work with any budget. Our in-home wellness circles are a great way to get the group together and try new services or get the same ones you love for cheaper group pricing and an excuse to gather with friends and c0 workers.

Our most proud achievements have always been each beaming client when they are enjoying their parties with an extra special flair that makes it most memorable. The heartfelt gratitude we receive is so rewarding to see our clients genuinely happy. Of course, we have worked with many celebrities and Hollywood events such as Emmys, Grammys, Gifting Tents, Kids Choice Awards, TV/Film Productions and Lexus of Santa Monica is one of our long time clients who do a monthly client appreciation day that really builds brand loyalty. we have regulars we see there and it’s all gratis as part of the benefit of being clients. There are so many ways we can provide services it’s always a new experience and so much fun. We are a part event planner, part pampering, part wellness and all fun!

Our techs are the top in the industry (therefore we ask for 24 hr+ minimum for service requests) we hire only the best who have been vetted by our management. We offer TOP NOTCH client services (my background) and smooth operations. We are easy, fun and VERY reasonably priced below many traditional spas.

We are set apart not only by our years in the industry but by that we have established this industry. We are the PREMIER Mobile Wellness Spa, first to offer wellness services beyond the spa established from the get go. and as far as I know there were only 2 other mobile spas in all of California at the time of our launch.

Also, the concept of wellness center in your business is new and innovative way to use insurance benefits to draw in employees as well as keep your staff healthy and at work Happy ! and making profits.

We’ve done employee appreciation days for many many companies and it’s always a huge hit. The in-home wellness circles also sets us apart since we are the ONLY company we know who does this. We offer discounted prices for groups to gather and experience any of our services, such as healthy cooking lessons or anti-aging facials. We also offer daily yoga/pilates/personal trainer classes in offices all across LA and OC. The employer pays for the tech time and opens up a conference room in the early morning and we create an onsite gym option. The possibilities are endless. Let’s not forget about our Beauty Bar and Barber Shop services… Pop Up Beauty Bars are all the rage and We Got Em. 🙂

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
WE LOVE SOCAL SO MUCH! What’s not to love. Sun and fun… surf and ski on one day! and oh the weather… we can provide services outdoors all year round! I always like to say what’s best about LA is that whenever you are Not working You are ON VACATION… so true. I could gush for hours about our city… the lights, the excitement the movers the shakers… all things happening are happening here. Which is why our services have been so successful here, there are constantly happening award shows, wedding parties, biz launches, club openings… and on and pin and we have had the good fortune to be there for all of these types of goings on here in Beautiful Sunny Southern California.

Of course, the one drawback, as we all know all too well, is TRAFFIC Yuck!

And that’s why our service is extra special. When I started this company I took work in several spas across LA to investigate the industry from the inside, and what I found, as general manager for the Aqua Day Spa in Santa Monica as well as helping to establishing the Equinox Spa here among others, I learned that the WORST part of the relaxing spa visit, was that it’s not at all relaxing to deal with LA traffic, and with parking and being on time for paid services, the clients were so stressed by the time they arrive, maybe missing time, that they had to use the whole service to calm down from their arrival. And upon leaving, they’d go right back into the belly of the beast LA Traffic nightmare and all benefits of service would be lost… thus Mobile Spa we come to You is the Way to Go!
