Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been in the fashion retail industry for over a decade now. During this time, I have mastered the art of styling and accessorizing for human customers. But one day, a wild idea struck me – how can I bring everyday fashion to our beloved pets? That’s when I decided to start my own pet business, offering unique, fun, and quirky items for all pets to enjoy. From everyday clothing to match their personalities, to hilarious and playful hats to complement their outfits, Pretty Kitty Pet Accessories was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is tough, especially when you’re just figuring it out as you go. For me, the biggest challenge was deciding which vendor events to participate in. I quickly learned that not all pop-up events are suitable for the pet industry. Through trial and error, I also discovered the importance of being selective with event bookings and my time. Sometimes, you may only make enough sales to cover expenses, and other times you may not sell anything at all. It’s all part of the vending life.

When I first started my business, I wanted to have a wide range of merchandise for all types of pets. However, I quickly discovered that trying to please everyone would break the bank. Instead, I have learned to focus on my clientele and expand gradually once I am able to cover expenses. Networking has been my biggest lesson in the past year. By getting to know other vendors, business owners, and event coordinators, I have been recommended to customers who are a perfect fit for my business. It’s important to put yourself out there, pass out business cards, and prioritize excellent customer service to keep customers coming back.

One thing to know about Pretty Kitty: our brand caters to all pets, regardless of size. If the item fits, it’s made for them!
We specialize in stylish seasonal outfits and hilarious hats to trendy accessories and Doggles for eye protection, our brand has a wide variety of products for our furry friends. What we are most proud of is we’re not just for cats – we welcome all kinds of pets, including bunnies, lizards, goats, and guinea pigs! Trust us, you’ll find something you never knew you needed (but now you do!)

One of our biggest inspirations for starting our business was my mom and sister, who both own and operate their own Mobile Pet Grooming companies. During the challenging year of 2020, they were both laid off and decided to pursue their passion for pet grooming by starting their own businesses. My mom’s business, Leos MobilePet Grooming, is based in the Valley and West LA, while my sister’s business, Fresh Paws Mobil Spa, operates in Orange County, Long Beach, and Whittier. One thing we want the readers to know is at Pretty Kitty, not only are you shopping for best friend, but also for a cause. For every sale, 10% is donated to Cali and Friends Cat Rescue. This rescue holds a special place in our hearts as we have a rescue cat named Diego from there. His mother was abandoned at a school and gave birth to 5 kittens, one of them being Diego. The owner of Cali and Friends Cat Rescue, Alex, truly does an incredible job rescuing and caring for cats in need, from those who have suffered through tough times to those who have disabilities and require special attention and medication. By supporting this amazing rescue, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of these furry friends.

We also prioritize being part of fundraisers for worthy causes. This includes supporting rescues who hold events to raise donations for rescued animals in need. Additionally, we have donated items to numerous events to assist with donation baskets, raffles, and fundraising efforts. The rescues do amazing work year-round and we are happy to do our part in raising awareness and contributing funds. Pretty Kitty is honored to be involved in such a fantastic cause!

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was an introverted art-loving kid who also had a passion for sports, gaming, dancing, and animals. Art has always been a major interest for me, from mastering drawing at a young age to taking animation classes. The vibrant world of art has always captivated me, and I’m not afraid to show it through bold and vivid colors, both in my artwork and in my fashion. This is why Pretty Kittys’ logo is a bright, eye-catching pink and full of vibrant hues – to stand out from the rest. Animals have also played a big part in my life, from goldfish to hamsters, cats to dogs, and even a ferret my sister and I found in a trash can. Though we couldn’t keep it, our love for animals has always been strong – no wonder I ended up starting my own pet business!
