Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Maldonado.
Hi Chuck, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a former high school teacher, I was discovered as a dancer by the late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes from the R&B group TLC. In Atlanta, GA I then started my dance/choreography career by choreographing and dancing for artists such as; Blaque, Kelly Price, and Pink. After that, I took a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles, CA to further pursue my dreams of becoming a full-time dancer and choreographer in the entertainment industry. After being in LA for about two weeks, I landed my first job dancing in Missy Elliott music video ‘Get Ur Freak On’. Following that along with other successes, I then choreographed and danced in over thirty-two films such as; ‘You Got Served,’ ‘Dreamgirls’, ‘Stomp The Yard’, ‘Alvin and The Chipmunks’, ‘Sharktales’, and the ‘Step Up’ franchise. In addition, I have worked with artists such as; Missy Elliott, Chris Brown, Usher, Fergie, Pink, Backstreet Boys, and Jennifer Lopez. I’ve worked with productions in reality tv like; America’s Best Dance Crew, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with The Stars, and X-Factor. As my career continued to gain momentum, I discovered my love for producing and directing, I have been fortunate enough to direct several Roc-Nation music videos for artists. As an award-winning, sough-out creative Director/choreographer, I wanted to share my knowledge and experience in the dance industry by opening up my dance studio Fuzion Force LA in the heart of the NoHo art district.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think in any career especially entertainment, there is going to be a lot of ups and downs and rejection. However, I always believe whatever is happening in our lives is happening for us and not to us. One of my biggest challenges as an Afro-Latino was that I always had to prove myself and work ten times harder than my counterparts and one of the ways I was able to overcome that was by being efficient and well-versed in multiple genres of dance.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a creative director/choreographer for tv/film and to the stars. I am most known for choreographing hip-hop and the art of stepping. I am most proud of choreographing the Blockbuster movie ‘Stomp The Yard’. What sets me apart from others is my diversity in dance/stepping and my positive, warm, and bright personality.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
