Meet Chelsea Smith of The Smiths Catering and Private Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chelsea. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
As a young single mother, I knew I had to work hard to provide for my daughter, so I decided to attend culinary school and pursue a career in the hospitality industry. From there I expanded my career by working in LA, OC, Riverside, and SD learning from chefs of all walks of life. This continued for 14 years during which time I wrote and taught a WASC accredited post-secondary Culinary Arts program for at-risk and low-income communities in Riverside County, mostly foster and TAY age youth.

In 2017, I decided to quit my job at a prominent San Diego catering company and pursue my dreams of opening my own business with my husband and partner Michael Smith. In our first year, we have catered four feature movies obtaining IMDB credits parties as well as countless private and corporate events. We fell into the legal cannabis industry because of our history in the medicinal industry and are creating custom private events for all of Southern California. I have used my experience to create a new kind of experience for the legal cannabis industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is ever a smooth road, but all of the setbacks are what make us grow. In this growing industry, everyone wants a piece of the pie, and there is plenty to go around. The collaboration I have experienced outweigh the negative circumstances we all must face from time to time. If I continue to grow and learn from the negative the only direction is up.

The Smiths Catering and Private Events is a full-service catering and event company specializing in custom private experience for our clients. We host infused dinners, parties, corporate gatherings, B2B conventions, and intimate engagements. With a combined 25 years, experience out company aims to create an unforgettable custom experience for every event.

Currently, my focus is on Taboo Talks Series. A six-part Women’s Speaker Series where women from all walks of life come together to discuss the taboo topics surrounding cannabis use in a modern society. We have had two sessions and are preparing for session 3. The excitement and support of this series are growing daily, and we have been approached by locations across the US, Canada, and Europe to take the talk to them.

We aim to provide a safe place for women to discuss the things no one else will talk about. Women create sisterhood, become educated and inspire one another as we navigate this growing industry. Session 3 is focused on Cannabis and Sobriety and will be held April 7, 2019, in Palm Springs, CA. We also offer an online viewer ticket to watch the discussion from your home!!! Is our city a good place to do what you do?
California is booming, and almost every city is on board. Each city is different when it comes to events and regulations so keeping up can be tiring.

However, if you do the work and educate yourself on their regulations, you will be fine.

My recommendation is to educate, educate, educate, no one will do this for you so take the initiative and do the work.
