Today we’d like to introduce you to Cerissa Aguirre.
Hi Cerissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Mexican American Actress and Creative Entrepreneur from the Bay Area, born in San Jose California. Both sides of my family have been in America for generations. This helped shape who I am because as an actress, I never felt held back by my ethnicity. I’ve always felt I have just as much of an opportunity as everyone else. Growing up my parents instilled in me their core values of most Mexican families, combined with the mindset of American culture. My parents always wanted a better life for me and my sister, keeping us in good schools and always encouraging me to become anything I could dream of. This led me to realize I wanted to become an actress around the age of 13, and I started taking acting classes all through my high school years, along with many other creative classes. This is where I’ve always strived as a creative person. My family and I moved to Los Angeles when I was 18. They knew there were more opportunities here to pursue my dreams and didn’t want us to stay stuck in a small town.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been an easy road at all, but Los Angeles is the perfect place to pursue a creative career. In between being on set as an Actor and for commercials, I’m also a Model, YouTuber, Podcast Host, certified Sound Facilitator, Makeup Artist, and UGC content creator. I like to say my life is sort of a Benjamin Button story. I had 9 to 5 desk jobs in my younger years after high school to support my family, but as I grew older, I felt younger by staying creative and continuing to pursue my passions and staying away from the traditional corporate lifestyle. Early on, I knew that I couldn’t see my future self at those desk jobs much longer because my life was meant for more. In 2020 during the pandemic lockdown, I began learning to film and edit my own long-form videos. I wanted to create a new skill and come out of that dark time with a story to tell. I wanted something useful to add to my career, which turned into a Youtube Channel. I’ve learned so much as an entrepreneur and creating a business around myself. I’ve made many mistakes, but every entrepreneur goes through a similar journey of ups and downs, uncertainty, being your own boss, outsourcing, managing others, and sometimes not knowing when your next paycheck might come. Many times, it can feel like a solo journey. It can be easier to want to settle for a comfortable job or relationship, but as an artist, there will always be sacrifices. I try to remind myself that our greatest lessons come out of our pain and hardships. Tough times build my character, make me smarter in business, wiser, and give me a testimony.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m currently Acting in commercials, and Modeling. I also want to do more Film and TV. In the social media space, I am focused on a new season of my YouTube channel and Podcast as well as working with mindful brands in UGC – User-generated content. In my free time I enjoy facilitating Sound Baths to connect with my community in person and sharing the practice of healing our bodies and nervous system through sound. My mission is to use my platform to continue to encourage and inform my community both online and in person about mind, body, and soul wellness. Creating content that can spark change while giving glory to God, because God gives us gifts so we can use them to help others. I want to show love, be of service to others, and have faith. I am most proud when people tell me I have helped them in some way.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m inspired by and listen to podcasts such as; Girls Gone Bible, Jay Shetty, Lewis Howes, and Do The Work by Sabrina Zohar. I’ve also made the biggest quantum leaps in my self growth journey from Mastin Kipp. His online resources & Facebook groups have taught me how to identify my unhealed emotional traumas and how to regulate my nervous system based on Polyvagal Theory. I really began to make huge changes in myself once I went beyond just intellectualizing the self help process. I have to also mention Breeny Lee on YouTube for inspiring me with her videos on self-development and faith. Three of my favorite books that really changed my outlook on life are A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza. For editing my long-form videos, I use Final Cut Pro, and for short-form CapCut app is a great go-to. Canva website or app is also amazing for creating anything like thumbnail art, websites, or ebooks. Lastly, don’t forget to check out my social media platforms and broadcast channel for more information and tips on mental health and self development. I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve learned on my digital platforms and will soon be coming out with my own offerings and digital products and resources to help you start Living Your Best Life.
