Meet Caprice OBryant of Excuse Free Fitness in East LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caprice OBryant.

Caprice, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got into fitness in 2012 after I was rebuilding my life from retrograde amnesia (lost my memory) from a seizure and I was on this deep search for purpose. I used exercise as my blueprint to healing my mind and body. Once I started attending the gym regularly with my dad, I started seeing the same people and they began coming up to me for advice!

This was shocking because I was simply there wanting to get my own life together. I even pointed them in the direction of the guy that had “trainer” on the back of his shirt. Their persistence in asking for my help grew and I decided to let them workout with me instead of leading them in anything. Once they got results, it was the most exciting and rewarding feeling I had ever experienced! It all evolved from there! I got certified as a personal trainer in 2013. This became a committed lifestyle of learning how to eat healthy and exercise. I learned how to tap into a greatness within myself and doing the same for others became my mission! I went on to open my own facility providing group classes and 1:1 personal training by the summer of 2015.

Has it been a smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been all sunshine & roses 🙂 One of the more recent struggles would be transitioning from having a brick & mortar facility to providing 100% services online. Knowing that you are called to reach way more people outside of your four walls is a huge step to make but a necessary one! Our transition came long before there were any shelter in place mandates and quarantine orders but we are truly blessed by the influx of people being reminded of how awesome it is to get their workouts in at home or even on their backyard patio! However, the initial reaction was wow we miss human interaction and keeping engagement high via screens did not come easy to begin! : ) Now we adapted with how to keep the same energy as if we were still in a group fitness class with music blasting to 50 people!

Excuse Free Fitness is an online fitness training company that provides virtual classes, training, and online programs with nutrition coaching to ensure that nothing gets in the way of wellness! We specialize in fat loss and building muscle. We are most known for our “Tank Top Tuesday” class! It is every week at 5:00pm pst. It is a total body workout with major focus on your upper body & core!! You definitely don’t have to wear a Tank Top to this zoom class, but it is getting you prepared for a tank top to feel confident and strong the next time you do wear one! We are different because of the background of our founder, Coach Caprice…given her personal background with overcoming two major car accidents, surviving a traumatic brain injury and being a warrior of Epilepsy, we are all able to work with a truly diverse group of clientele. We keep our workouts accessible and provide modifications as needed. “No excuses” is more than a mantra, it’s a way of life!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE the mountains and hiking. The views never get old. Ever 🙂 Even though this answer is probably typical, I would have to say the traffic!
