Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Sener.

Hi Candice, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into the world of mechanical keyboards began like many others—through mainstream vendors like Razer and Logitech. Yet, despite spending hundreds of bucks, I couldn’t find a keyboard that felt just right. It was during my Data Science master’s program at UC Berkeley, in the midst of the Covid-19, a friend of mine blew my mind with their custom-built keyboard, a nearly $1000 investment. I was shocked but it was the best keyboard I have ever typed on.

The rabbit hole led me through subreddits dedicated to mechanical keyboards, only to find everything either sold out or insanely long lead times of 1 to 2 years, plus an eye-watering price tag. Online mechanical keyboard stores faced similar shortages and delays, as most of them operated as side gigs. That’s when my entrepreneurial mindset turned on, and I decided to design a dog-themed keycap set and a 60% mechanical keyboard crafted from CNC’ed aluminum.

My goal was clear: Keep them in stock and offer them at prices that wouldn’t break the bank. I quickly set up a Shopify store and a Discord server.

And thus, KeebsForAll was born. We’re all about stocking quality products at reasonable prices, making sure enthusiasts, newbies, and pros alike can dive into this passion without the headache of scarcity or crazy costs. Now, we have over 13,000 Discord members on our server, and they provide valuable feedback on upcoming projects and guide us on what they would like to see in the store next.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating the realm of custom mechanical keyboards presents several of challenges, particularly when it comes to creating a balance between catering to our core enthusiasts and expanding the hobby to a broader audience. At KeebsForAll, our primary focus lies in serving dedicated enthusiasts, but we aspire to broaden the horizon of the custom mechanical keyboard scene. This introduces the delightful challenge of finding the sweet spot in our keyboard designs. While we endeavor to meet the needs of seasoned enthusiasts, we simultaneously craft products with an eye toward the wider market. Our ultimate aim is to design keyboards that cater to everyone, ensuring ease of use without compromising on premium quality. Maintaining this equilibrium remains an ongoing pursuit, one that encourages us to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of custom mechanical keyboards.
