Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Ferrell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been both a hairstylist and makeup artist for ten years, building my career in Los Angeles, California. My clientele is based in West Hollywood, and I’ve worked on set for E!News, Bravo’s Housewives of Beverly Hills season 7, Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family” etc. I love working in a salon setting, set work, and weddings. Something I love is changing my work environment. I’ve flown overseas internationally as a stylist for television, weddings, and at the time I thought that was making it, but I realized I can do much more. I knew I needed to build the B Ready team as well so I could really make an impact in the industry. I believe in multiplying. My team and I collaborate for larger weddings, launch events and photoshoots; you name it, we’ve styled it. I’m really so blessed to see this passion has become more than I expected in my journey through Cosmetology.

I started my cosmetics line B Ready Beauty Lip Balm which I’ll be celebrating its one year anniversary since first launched to the public. I love all things beauty. My vision for this cosmetic line is “Back to the Basic” brand of beauty and skincare, with a more minimal and fresh simple approach with the products.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely! It’s the norm in such a competitive industry. It takes time to build a clientele and make a name for yourself.

My Brother and I decided to open up a Wellness and beauty co op, this year 2020 One stop shop, at the Loft DTLA, in a penthouse 10,000 sq. near LA live and Staple center. Services we offer, hair, make up, nails, eyelashes extensions, eyebrows, micro blading, Spay tanning, Med spa, lightstim bed and more.

I’m proud of having this success in such a big city as Greater Los Angeles, what many consider the “City of Beauty”.

Family owned, black owned, Latin owned.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I believe LA is the best place for hair and makeup artists. The opportunities are endless. I started as an assistant, learned most of my skills during that time; what works well and what doesn’t work.

My advice is to start as an assistant at top salons in LA. Learn, learn, learn. Sharpen up the skills in customer service by enhancing communication skills, because this industry is about building connections human to human. Most of my clientele was built on relationships which I continued to strengthen over the years by always giving one hundred percent to my craft. The best way is to have a consistent clientele, and obviously to practice the skill. My motto is: you’re never too good to learn. Keep up with trends and create it in your own way.
