Meet Bran Movay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bran Movay.

Bran, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started producing and making music back in middle school. My friends and I were always pretty creative growing up: we’d make our own trading cards, draw our own cartoon characters, film our own videos, and music was just another extension of that. It wasn’t until high school that I got more serious about honing my skills as an artist and producer, and when I moved to Los Angeles to studying at USC, I began releasing music as a solo artist. Today, I’m continuing to expand my fan base, performing my music around the Los Angeles area and collaborating with a wide variety of local artists.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. If I’m being honest, there’s really been no road at all. Being one of many independent artists out in LA, I feel like I’ve had to figure out a lot of things for myself through trial and error or just by putting myself out there. One of the biggest ongoing struggles is figuring out how to leverage my time wisely and really carve out a space for myself and my music in a crowd, fast-paced industry.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Being both a music producer and artist, I like to think of myself as a startup business – my product being my music. I’d describe my sound as a mixture of neo-soul, R&B, and funk all rooted in hip-hop. What sets me apart is my DIY approach to both creating and marketing my music; I’m able to have full control over my aesthetic and vibe as an artist and I take pride in the uniqueness of my music and brand.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
This may sound cheesy but some of my fondest childhood memories were waking up Christmas morning, unwrapping presents with my family, and listening to my dad’s iconic Christmas playlist.
