Meet Bo Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bo Lee.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Do you think we learn best by contrast? Where dissatisfactions will challenge and change you to create something better? I was a hot messss — not taking care of my body, irresponsible with money, burnt out with stress (while not realizing it) and carrying a dull heaviness of the sense that I was directing my life the wrong way. Now I’m super invested in whole wellness; emotional, physical, mental, spiritual and financial health. This IS my lifestyle. I advocate for others around me to pursue what health means to them too. I grew up on both coasts (NY/LA) and I’m living now in DTLA during probably one of the strangest years to move to the city and experience it through the lens of a pandemic. I love human-centered design, the power of context, good eye contact, an album needing no skips, traveling and cats.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
High tolerance for high stress is one hell of a double edged sword. I struggled getting to the roots of my stress and anxiety to the point where my hair started to fall out. If you’re curious, it’s called Telogen Effluvium. Unprocessed trauma undermines your worth. Shout out to talk therapy, shout out to myself for being open and curious rather than numbing and shout out to friends who supported me throughout. Upgrading the internal operating system you’re unconsciously running on is NOT a painless process but one of the most important things to keep doing again and again.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a creator, producer, strategist, friend and granddaughter, I’m a creative and communicator across multiple disciplines. I’ve worked with agencies, startups, and alongside pretty amazing folks running digital businesses. In the spirit of continuous growth, I think it’s abundantly clear, we aren’t defined by one role.

I’m the Founder of DesignKinds, Inc., part creative services, business management consulting and part a seasonal content series exploring contextual designs that run your day and focusing on how to document your process. Think of us as a soundboard for your thoughts and a whiteboard for your strategies. DesignKinds embodies and guides the multidisciplinary folks of the world preparing us and our businesses for what’s next without info overload or paralysis from analysis.

I think it’s great to document not only your work but also life. On my personal site, Leeboxtapes.com, I’ve shared my moods and messages on social distancing bringing us closer together as my anxiety soared during the months of isolation. The protests over the death of George Floyd is a moment that I hope we continue to act on and work onward from. Oppressive systems will take a while to break apart and the effort required to rebuild and hold up is even more. We must continue to act.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Start earlier on strength training, money management and exploring what’s beyond my bubble of comfort.
