Meet Bianca Wiles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Wiles.

Bianca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Moving to LA from Texas is when I officially started my modeling career. Of course, I was working gigs in Texas, but in Los Angeles is when I really started to flourish and push the envelope. After moving here, it was a series of events. It started out with VERY uncomfortable living situations that made me question if moving here was the right decision.

Almost every time I have felt this way, God shows up and shows out. Before signing with an agency, I worked with local and international brands such as Eno Black, Adidas, etc. I was so ecstatic that I quit my job and decided to become a full-time freelance model. The only thing was that the jobs weren’t consistent. So after living off all of my savings, I decided to go back into the workforce part-time. At my part-time job is where I was put into contact with my mother agent. I have now been with my agent for a year, and he sends me to different countries to work with international clients and build my portfolio.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Modeling is not a smooth road AT ALL! It’s such a roller coaster! One week you aren’t booking anything and questioning your existence and the next week you’re booking consistently and feeling like a million bucks. Also, with being a model with a darker skin tone not every makeup artist will know how to properly match your makeup. Along with hairstylists, not everyone is knowledgeable about approaching kinky hair. I would either have a teaching moment with the stylist or try to get in the chair of someone I am more confident with. Like for example, when I was in Istanbul I consistently booked with a client I LOVED. The makeup artist always kept me looking glowy and cute while the hairstylist was a little questionable. Istanbul doesn’t have an abundance of dark skin models, there is usually 1 or 2 on the board per agency and I don’t think that client had any dark skin girls before me. Because of that, I would sometimes have to come to set with my hair already done. After booking that client a couple of times, the hairstylist became comfortable with me and accepted my help when it came to my hair.

It can also be draining sometimes- mentally and physically. You have to be mentally strong to handle clients judging every aspect of you from your hair to your toes. To some clients you are too this or too that, but you cannot take it personally. Especially if you come to a point where bookings are dry, you have to stay ready mentally and physically. I have to stay committed to eating very healthy and working out consistently to make sure I am ready at any point in the season. If you stay ready, you never have to get ready.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I mostly do fashion print, commercial print and beauty. I also do a bit of swimwear, commercials, and social media videos. The things I am most proud of is traveling overseas and booking major commercials, breaking barriers for dark skin models, and Italian Vogue featuring me a few times. My attitude of positivity is probably what set me apart from a lot of other models. I’ve literally have been told that it’s not just my looks that will get me far, but my ability to be the reason everyone is having fun on set.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by my ability to help others. I feel like I am truly successful when I can help people reach milestones that they didn’t think they could reach. I want to become a person creating opportunities for others to succeed, whether it’s helping out financially, spiritually, emotionally, or physically with workouts. Some of my milestones of success include becoming a Victoria’s Secret angel, working alongside Naomi Campbell in a few campaigns, worldwide campaigns and billboards with luxury brands like Carolina Herrera, Estee Lauder, etc.
