Today we’d like to introduce you to Bee Davies.
Hi Bee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came into this industry from an unconventional starting point. My background was in tech, but I always had my eyes on entertainment. I got my break working for Alfina, a boss who had inherited a production studio after her husband passed away and had to learn the business from scratch, virtually overnight. She took a chance on me the same way, throwing me in and trusting me to grow into it fast. I worked seven days a week during the pandemic, and that period taught me the resilience that has carried me through building my own company. She also taught me one of the biggest lessons I still lead with: if you don’t know how to do something, build a network of people who do.
From there I founded Hive Global Media. We originally built our business around XR and Web3 services, but when the crypto market crashed, that demand disappeared almost overnight. We made the hard call to pivot into AI content production, applying the same virtual production expertise and infrastructure we had already built (3D design, LED volume, motion capture, volumetric capture) to a discipline that was just starting to take off. It turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made.
Along the way I built my leadership team the way I build everything, as a curator. I found Paris, our CTO, who blends fashion and tech, and met Kat, our COO, at a music NFT event, where music and tech intersect. Together the three of us make the perfect trifecta across music, fashion, film and tech.
Today Hive is a hybrid production studio bringing together photography, video and film with a full virtual production pipeline and AI-assisted VFX. We work on everything from fashion campaigns to feature films, all in-house, and we’re building our own original worlds like Hiverse, Strippaverse and Prideverse alongside client work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Breaking into entertainment from a tech background meant learning on the fly. In my early days I worked seven days a week through the pandemic, and I had to grow my skills as fast as the work demanded. It was exhausting, but it built the resilience I rely on as a founder today.
The biggest challenge came with the crypto market crash. We had originally built Hive’s business model around XR and Web3 services, and when that ecosystem collapsed, the demand we had built our services around disappeared almost overnight. We had to make a hard call fast: hold onto a model the market no longer supported, or rebuild around where the real opportunity was heading. We chose to pivot into AI content production, using the same virtual production expertise and infrastructure we had already built.
That pivot forced us to get sharper about what we were actually good at. Not “XR” or “Web3” as buzzwords, but the underlying production and technology pipeline that can serve any emerging format. The lesson I took from it: build your business around your capabilities, not around a single trend. Trends crash. What you’re actually good at doesn’t.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hive Global Media?
Hive Global Media is a hybrid production studio. We bring together photography, video and film with a full virtual production pipeline: 3D design, LED volume, motion capture, volumetric capture and AI-assisted VFX. We work across everything from fashion campaigns to feature films, all in-house. In short, we’re building the future of how music, fashion and brands get made.
Beyond production, we act as a connector, plugging clients into the technology platforms, venues and production resources they need to actually execute ambitious ideas, not just imagine them. And we go further than execution: our strategy work covers creative consulting, brand guidance, IP development and partnership strategy for brands and studios who are ready to build something bigger than a single campaign.
What sets Hive apart is that we’re not just a production vendor. We’re building our own IP and worlds alongside client work. Projects like Hiverse, Strippaverse and Prideverse are examples of us using the same virtual production tools we offer clients to create original universes of our own.
What I’m most proud of is that Hive isn’t just a service, it’s a statement about where music, fashion and brand storytelling are headed. We’re not waiting for the industry to catch up to virtual production and AI-assisted filmmaking; we’re building it in real time, in-house, with a small team that moves fast.
If there’s one thing I want readers to know about Hive, it’s this: we don’t just capture your vision, we build the technology and the world around it.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
First, build a network of experts and advisors. One of the biggest lessons my best boss ever taught me was that whenever you don’t know how to do something, find the people who do. You don’t have to have every answer yourself; you just need to know who to call. That idea is baked into how Hive operates today.
Second, build your business around your capabilities, not around a single trend. We learned that the hard way when the crypto market crashed and took our XR and Web3 business with it. Trends come and go. What you’re actually good at doesn’t.
Third, be a curator of your people, not just your product. Surround yourself with partners whose strengths complement yours, and trust your instincts when the right person shows up, even if you meet them in an unexpected place.
And finally, don’t be afraid to be thrown in the deep end. Some of my biggest growth came from saying yes before I felt ready and working harder than I thought I could. That resilience will carry you further than any single skill.
