Meet Audrey Tappan

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Tappan. Audrey was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Courtlyn Jones.

Audrey, thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
Thanks for having me and allowing me to share my story. I’ve always been a creative person and was often referred to as a rule breaker, but not what you think of when you imagine kids running around without supervision. I looked at things differently and had a different outlook on life and how I was going to navigate it, growing up on a farm gave me very practical skills at a young age. During my time at SCAD, I photographed a lot of fashion and products and loved how experimental I could get with props and colors, which you see a lot of in my current work. After a few years of real estate photography, weddings, and families I made my way to NYC to pursue a career in branding photography. Today, I’m a full fledged color-holic helping brands elevate their visuals for marketing campaigns and online presence! There have been a lot of twists and turns along the way but evolution is part of the process, never be afraid of change.

Please talk to us about your creative work and career. What should we know?
I founded Hued to empower brands and individuals to embrace their colorful, unfiltered selves. I love working with brands that embrace color and are looking to use photography and graphic design to stand out from the crowd. My agency, Hued, is a hub for color-holics that want to add a pop to their e-commerce websites or social media platforms. Over the last few years branding has become very minimalistic and neutral and I want to challenge brands to explore their personality and show it off. My goal is to create playful and bold graphic solutions for brands to stand out and express themselves through collaboration and experimentation. My work can be viewed at www.huedhuedhued.com

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Courtlyn Jones and The Design Database and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with The Design Database.
Since meeting Courtlyn through The Design Database she has become more than a colleague and I admire what she’s doing. For the first few months of knowing each other it was a strictly digital relationship only meeting at her Zoom networking events and coffee chats. A few months ago she held an anniversary party for The Design Database in Brooklyn where everyone got to meet in person to strengthen the relationships we’d already been fostering. Outside of the friendships I’ve made, The Design Database has been a great resource for finding work on the Job Board and receiving referrals from other members. My main source of income is from referrals so it’s important to me that the groups I’m a part of are worth my while, and The Design Database is!
