Meet Ashley Hogan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Hogan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Raised in Houston, Texas with my roots and lineage beginning in New Orleans, Louisiana… I’ve always had a passion for the Arts.

Growing up, I danced and attended several theatre classes throughout school. Once I got to college at Texas Southern University, I enrolled in the Theatre Arts program. This is where my love of performing blossomed. I participated in school productions and was casted in numerous stage plays in local Houston theatres.

Upon graduating with a minor in Theatre Arts, I set my sights on breaking into the television/film industry. While pursuing an acting career, I worked as a school teacher. I did both, simultaneously, until I made the decision to pursue acting full time.

Then, summer 2018, I packed my bags, left behind a Master’s Degree in Counseling, a promising teaching career, and headed for the Hills. This may sound crazy to some, but it was an easy decision. I could either stay and live content, or I could leave and live my wildest dreams. It was a no brainer. I knew that LA was where I wanted to be in order to make my dreams a reality.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I really wish I could say it has been a smooth road, but anything worth having doesn’t come easy right? When I arrived in LA, I hit the ground running. New headshots, updated resumes, and worked on my biggest production to date: “I Got The Hook-Up 2”, which debuted in theatres across the country July 2019. I was on a roll and I was just getting started!

However, things took a drastic turn when I was involved in a traumatic accident in August 2018, exactly a month after I arrived. During a hiking trip, I was swept off a cliff by a wave and tossed into the Pacific Ocean. I was air-lifted to a nearby Emergency Room where my journey to recovery began. Physically, I wasn’t able to audition or work because of my injuries. So, I was out of work for a while. My family and close friends were incredible with keeping my hopes high as I recovered.

I received several messages advising me to move back to Houston because the fact that I almost died was a sign that I wasn’t supposed to be in LA. But, I trusted The Creator with all of my heart and I knew I wouldn’t be here if He didn’t have an amazing plan for me. Keeping this mindset changed my life and expedited my recovery time. Less than two months after my accident, I was back in acting classes and going on auditions. Since then, I have booked lead roles in several projects and was nominated for Best Actress Supporting Role in a short.

This experience ultimately taught me to appreciate every moment in life, to hold my loved ones close, and that setbacks are set-ups for major comebacks….no matter how rough the road may be.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
Currently, I am a working actress living in LA. Some like to use the term “aspiring actress”, but I believe that if you are going on auditions and booking… then, you are a working actor. I am proud to say that I am actually living and loving what I came to LA to do.

I think what sets me apart from others is not comparing my journey to someone else’s. I celebrate everyone’s accomplishments as if they were my own. As actors, I think it’s important to create your own lane because there will always be enough room at the table for everyone to eat.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as simply doing what you love for work. I don’t like to base my success off of reaching a particular marker or goal because if I’m able to get up every day, put in hard work while loving what I do, then success will always be mine.
