Meet Asha McClendon of Kuishi Studios in Mid-City Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asha McClendon.

Asha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Entrepreneurship started at Fairfax Highschool. I was the youngest to sell jewelry at Fairfax Flea Market every Sunday. From 10th grade to 2020, I’ve expanded and embarked upon entrepreneurship. After I graduated high school, I received a BA in Communication Studies at CSUN and moved to New York to pursue adulthood. Moving back from NY this February 2020, I understood it is now time for me to put my all into my businesses, Kuishi, a service brand for POC entrepreneurs, Muske, an organic candle company, and a freelance Graphic/Web Designer. My main goal is to create things to maintain my sanity and inform folks how to become an entrepreneur through the lens of my Chat Room conversations with other entrepreneurs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is not as sexy as it seems. There’s a lot of lows and anytime there is a “high” it’s followed by another low. However, I appreciate the process.

Please tell us about Kuishi Studios.
Kuishi Studios is a service brand. We are teaching others through conversations with entrepreneurs on the processes and actionable steps one needs to create to move forward with their business. These conversations are meaningful because it naturally creates a community for POC Entrepreneurs. I don’t know of another brand that values the entrepreneurial process, so Kuishi Studios is filling the knowledge gap for those starting their journey to entrepreneurship. Outside of Kuishi Studios, I have another company, Muske. It’s a 100% organic beeswax candle brand educating others on paraffin, and purifying folks air.

What were you like growing up?
I am the definition of an intro-extrovert. I’m usually in my world, but when I’m out with friends, I’m out socializing, creating a memorable moment. However, it takes some time for me to pop out.
