Meet Claudio Martins and Raquel Garcia of Art&Cia LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudio Martins and Raquel Garcia.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Claudio and Raquel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started 10 years ago teaching animation and computer graphics in Brazil. During these years we invited several artists here from the film and animation industry to give lectures and workshops in our country. Professionals from several studios like: Pixar, Disney, ILM, Blizzard, BlueSky, DreamWorks etc. We started with only one course, and few years later we had 15 courses and 12 teachers. The school is currently producing a game for Sony along with students and professionals. We encourage production in the classroom and incubate companies. One of them was born Valente Studio, a pioneer VR/AR company that produces interactive experiences for the largest water park in Brazil and producing a medical app for the treatment of labyrinthitis using VR. Also, to give everyone a chance to access computer graphics class, we created two social projects to low-income teenagers. There we taught animation and technology innovation for free. But we had the desire to expand our knowledge and contacts coming to Los Angeles, city that we are currently in love and we decided to spend a season. It suddenly appears an opportunity to have our first workshop here “3D Creature Design” with a great 3D artist who works in films, Luis Carrasco at CTN’s Center Stage Gallery.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a great challenge in the begin. Our challenges on the way just empowered us to continue and make us more stronger. At first, we learned by mistakes. A lot. Was so hard. In the life we learning every day. You never stop to learning. It’s like a baby that falls to stand up or ride a bike. We had a lot of challenge in the past. For sure we’ll have in the future too. We working create things and bring innovations to the students, to our customer. This is not easy to teach, not easy to learn, not easy to offer, and sometimes not easy to be accepted. We have every day to update ourselves and innovate. The market demands this. The student demands this. The customers either. Our world each day is more faster. We like to be faster, but we like to offer quality first. We like to help and give support too. We like to see our student growing professionally. We like to see our customer have the experience we created for them and they earning with this.

Please tell us about Art&Cia LA.
Our companies have focus on the market. The students learn on 100% practice with the best teachers, normally artists whom work on the market.

We have a great network and this is a great possibility to direction or orient the student to the right way. We’re known as pioneer school that brings the best for the students. Mostly of our students get jobs or chances on the cinema, animation and games companies. We have mission to guide them. We’re mentors. Like we said before, the quality coming first. And quality always bring the best. We not just teach, we support the whole student’s career path. This is our main differential.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Our memories are so fresh about art and animations. This is influences us a lot. Videogames too. Play too. But the unique experience thing that remarkable are our friends and new discoveries. Real ones. And how’s this important in the future.
