Meet Adam Haro of APHilms in Mid City LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Haro.

Adam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After high school, I went on and earned 2 AA degrees from Santa Monica College; one in film studies and the other in film production. After graduating from college at age 21, it took me some time to figure out how I would essentially “make it” in Hollywood. I had worked on many school projects, such as short films, music videos, and open mic stand up’s; so I knew I had the skills necessary. After College I got a part time job to save up money for a camera, lights and more. After some time, I finally decided to become a freelance Photographer and Videographer. I invested in a 4k DSLR Camera and never looked back.

After mastering my camera, I went on and volunteered to shoot red carpet events for Affinity Nightlife and InfoList. After networking for a while I reached out to a friend for a photoshoot which led me to more consistent work with Press. Now I’ve been able to shoot for WhereistheBuzzTV and BlackinAmerica.com. I am truly blessed to be where I am, but this isn’t my stopping point. I plan to work for Press and Freelance while actively pursuing my Directing debut.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a content creator, I face many challenges when it comes to my skill and craft. I shot a TV pilot for a friend last year and I made a huge mistake on Day 1 of shooting. I was the director of photography and it was my second time doing the job. I had my camera, gear, and lenses. Thankfully the next couple days went amazingly, the only issue was that the lighting from day one and the rest of the shoot would not match. I was very disappointed in myself; however, it was a great learning experience.

Another crazy experience happened when I was still in film school, when I chose to produce a friends mini-series. I loved the idea and was excited to finally produce a show; however, the experience was draining, We worked as best as we could, but when the day of shooting came, we just weren’t ready. There was too much drama between the Director and the Director of Photography which ruined the shoot. Looking back now, its a great learning experience; never shoot anything if the pre-production stage hasn’t been completed. I can’t tell you enough, it’s embarrassing to gather a crew passionate to shoot something and it completely bombs.

My last story is when I screwed up an interview with Micheal B. Jordan. I was on the red carpet to this year’s Just Mercy starring Micheal B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, and Brie Larson. I was shooting the interviews for Where is the Buzz TV and was with their host Ashley Dunn. I had pictures and videos already on the memory card before shooting the red carpet; so what happened was, as I was recording the interview my memory card got full and cut the interview automatically. I wasn’t able to notice because there were so many other press outlets around me trying to get an interview with Micheal as well. That was the last time I would do that, from now on every memory card I use gets reformatted before a shoot.

APHilms – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My brand is APHilms and what I focus on are, producing Feature and Short films, as well as; music videos, commercials, live events, and TV shows. My specialties include but not limited to are Videography, Photography, and Editing. What I’m known for are Red Carpet Interviews. I work with clients involved in Press and Media so I get to work with and see many celebrities. This year alone, I was able to attend several Movie Press Junkets and Red carpet events such as Money Mayweather’s 43rd Birthday Bash. When I attend these events, I take full advantage of the opportunity, you never know who you will meet and these opportunities don’t come often unless you have connections. What sets me apart from other companies is that I am one person able to do the job of 3 or 4. This industry is so competitive that you need to make yourself unexpendable. I always try to keep pushing content or watching content. At the moment I am in the process of developing two feature films and two shows as well as booking photoshoots.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
At this point in my career, I’ve attended many movie premieres, fashion shows, after-parties, press junkets, etc. If I had to pick my proudest moment would be attending Money Mayweather’s recent 43rd birthday party. My client WhereistheBuzzTV sent myself and Host Toi Monet to the Birthday Bash over in Hollywood to get the full coverage. At this party, I was able to see Quavo, French Montana, Snoop Dogg, Mayweather, and met so many people it was amazing. I got interviews with Snoop Dogg and Mayweather and many more which was exciting. After the red carpet ended, I went into the party and started networking. My camera is the best ice breaker, I took pictures of tons of people and made sure to get their contact information after. Many of them had huge followers on Instagram, and I didn’t know any of them. As a photographer, you need to grow your network, and these opportunities are amazing for it.
