Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Beavington.
Hi Amy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been connected to the spirit world for as long as I can remember. As a child, seeing and experiencing spirit was simply part of my everyday life. It wasn’t something I necessarily understood, but it was something I always knew.
For much of my life, I kept that part of myself relatively private. It wasn’t until later in adulthood that I made the decision to openly embrace my abilities and share them with others. What started as simply being myself and trusting what I had experienced my entire life slowly evolved into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
In February 2022, I founded The Modern Medium, creating a space where I could offer psychic mediumship readings while encouraging people to explore their own spirituality in a grounded, approachable, and authentic way.
Today, The Modern Medium. has grown into a beautiful community, with a dedicated studio in Fort Langley, a team of talented practitioners across the Vancouver, BC, lower mainland, and events that bring hundreds of people together to explore spirituality, connection, and self-discovery.
I’m also a mother of three, and balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and the work I do has been its own incredible journey.
What I’m most proud of is that I haven’t had to become someone else to build this life. I’ve simply learned to be more of who I’ve always been.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that spirituality doesn’t have to look a certain way. My hope is to continue creating spaces where people feel comfortable being curious, asking questions, connecting with themselves, and discovering what resonates with them.
It’s been an unexpected journey, and one I’m incredibly grateful for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think any journey worth taking is ever entirely smooth, and mine has certainly been no exception.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning to be completely comfortable with who I am and what I do, especially in a profession that isn’t always understood or accepted. Being a psychic medium comes with its fair share of skepticism, judgment, and misconceptions. Learning not to take those things personally and recognizing that I don’t need everyone to believe in what I do has been an important part of my growth.
Building a business from the ground up has also come with challenges. When I started The Modern Medium, I had no idea what it would eventually become. I’ve had to learn how to navigate entrepreneurship, trust my instincts, establish boundaries, and recognize that growth often requires stepping outside of what’s comfortable.
I’m also a mother of three, and balancing the demands of motherhood with running a growing business has certainly had its moments. There have been significant personal changes, loss, and experiences along the way that have challenged me to practise the very things I encourage others to explore: self-awareness, compassion, acceptance, and trusting the process.
I think one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that life isn’t necessarily about avoiding difficult experiences. It’s about learning how to move through them while remaining connected to yourself.
I don’t believe we need to have everything figured out to move forward. Sometimes the most meaningful growth comes from the moments that challenge us the most.
And if there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that authenticity will always be more valuable than trying to fit into someone else’s expectations of who you should be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a psychic medium, meditation coach, and the founder of The Modern Medium, based in Fort Langley, outside of Vancouver, British Columbia.
At the heart of my work is connecting people. Whether that’s connecting with loved ones in spirit, reconnecting with themselves, or exploring their own spirituality, everything I do comes back to creating meaningful experiences rooted in authenticity, compassion, and curiosity.
I’m primarily known for my work as a psychic medium, offering private and group readings where I communicate with spirit and share the messages and experiences that come through. I’ve been able to see and experience spirit for as long as I can remember, and one of the things I love most about my work is helping people understand that connection doesn’t necessarily end when our physical lives do.
Beyond mediumship, I’m incredibly passionate about meditation, mindfulness, energy work, and spiritual education. Through The Modern Medium, I’ve created a space that brings together talented practitioners offering a variety of modalities, workshops, classes, and experiences that encourage people to explore what resonates with them.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the community that has grown around this work. What began as me offering readings has evolved into a business with a beautiful studio, an incredible team of practitioners, and large-scale events like The Modern Medium Spiritual Social, where hundreds of people come together to learn, connect, and explore their spirituality.
I think what sets me apart is my approach to spirituality. I’m not particularly interested in convincing anyone of what they should believe. In fact, I welcome skepticism and curiosity. I believe spirituality is deeply personal, and there isn’t one correct way to experience it.
I also don’t believe that being a psychic medium makes me any more spiritually evolved than anyone else. I happen to experience the world in a way that allows me to communicate with spirit, but I’m also a mother of three, a business owner, and a human being navigating the same complexities of life as everyone else.
I try to bring humour, honesty, and a grounded perspective into everything I do. I don’t feel the need to make spirituality mysterious or inaccessible. If anything, I want people to feel that they can show up exactly as they are, without judgment or expectations.
I’m incredibly proud that I’ve built a business where I can simply be myself while creating opportunities for others to do the same.
Ultimately, I don’t want people to walk away from an experience with me feeling that they need me to access something greater. I want them to leave feeling more connected to themselves, more curious about their own experiences, and more confident in their ability to navigate life in a way that feels authentic to them.
To me, that’s where the real magic is.
What makes you happy?
I think what makes me happiest is connection. Genuine, meaningful connection with the people I love, with the world around me, and most importantly, with myself.
My three children bring me an incredible amount of joy. Watching them grow, discovering who they are, and experiencing life through their eyes reminds me how beautiful the simplest moments can be.
I also find so much happiness in the little things. Travelling, laughing until my stomach hurts, having meaningful conversations, being in nature, and sharing experiences with people I love. I’m naturally curious about life, and I love those moments that remind me just how extraordinary it is to be here.
Of course, my work brings me a tremendous amount of happiness as well. Being able to connect people with their loved ones in spirit, witnessing those beautiful emotional moments, and creating spaces where people feel seen, understood, and comfortable being themselves is something I never take for granted.
But I think the older I get, the more I realize that happiness isn’t necessarily about everything going right. It’s about being present enough to appreciate what’s right in front of you, even when life is complicated.
I’ve experienced enough of life’s ups and downs to understand that happiness and sadness can coexist. I don’t think we’re meant to be happy all the time, and I don’t believe that’s the goal of being human.
For me, happiness is having the freedom to be myself, loving deeply, staying curious, and finding moments of gratitude in this beautifully unpredictable human experience.
