Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Ho.
Amanda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Brazil, in the Amazon area. In my childhood, I was always a very lonely girl, who didn’t have much friends, so I would spend most part of my awake time wondering and daydreaming. As I was growing up, my father introduced me to the concept of the Mind, and how powerful it was.
If I was swimming at a river and would like to dive into the water of those rivers, I would say things like: “Dad, let me have my last dive”, he would rephrase it and say something like: “Never say it’s your last dive, it’s just one more of the dives you will have throughout your life. You can have one more today before we leave.” What he meant by that was that words have power. I grew up not quite understanding why he would always rephrase certain things. He was definitely a positive influence in my life and that helped me shape the path I find myself today.
In my early teens, I found a book in my parent’s house. That book talked about “The Power of Your Unconscious Mind”. I do not know what made me read that book. It was a gift from a friend of my parents and it wasn’t being read by any of them, but somehow that caught my curiosity. So, I started reading the book. That revealed so many things I didn’t know. Some of the knowledge contained in that book I didn’t understand because my brain wasn’t mature enough to grasp those concepts at the age of 13, but it was enough to help understand somethings about the way I was living.
Years passed and I went through some real hardships. They were mostly related to my self-image. I had a little bit of knowledge about the mind but didn’t know how to apply any of it. I put myself under some really risky situations, got involved with very negative people – that I used to call “friends” – and allowed myself to let that negativity influence my life. Back then I didn’t know that even though you have knowledge, your environment is very important, the people you associate with will have some sort of influence in your life because we have mirror neurons.
After a lot of inner struggle and therapy, I kind of had a functioning life. It wasn’t completely happy yet. There was a void that I didn’t know how to fulfill. I wasn’t applying any of the things I learned about the mind, didn’t know anyone who was working on their own self-development, so I was very stagnated. I wasn’t growing as a person. I was living a life in a vegetative state.
One day, I met a man. That man became my husband and the father of my son. He did everything he could to bring me to the US and live here next to him as his wife. Because he was always so generous and good with me, I wanted to be able to reciprocate all that generosity.
But how? I had to find a job! I thought to myself: “What can I do that will help me make money in the US and be able to give back all the good things he has been doing for me?” It’s when I thought of Real Estate. I started waking up at 4:30 AM to study for the exam, I learned everything I could to start working with Real Estate and become successful. I watched plenty of videos from the most successful agents. What were they doing? I knew what to do consciously. I passed the exam and was very excited to finally be able to make money… Lots of money! A real estate brokerage hired me quickly. The broker believed in me, he said: “You will become s Super Star!” I got to convince everybody I was going to do a great job, had a good image, I knew what to do, but… I wasn’t doing it!
When I got a lead who would call me on the phone, my hands would tremble, I would perspire cold sweat and would end up not answering the call. If I was to door knock, I would feel my heart pounding out of my chest. I hired coaches, spent several thousands of dollars with seminars and coaching for real estate and no results. That made me very depressed because I had made very few deals and felt useless because I knew what to do, but it scared the hell out of me to even think of doing those things. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. It had to be in my mind! I started searching online for NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) because I heard the best salespeople were using it.
Google presented me with many suggestions, and an ad from a Hypnotherapy College that offered the so thought after (by me) NLP course kept on popping on my screen. Even when I wasn’t searching for it, that ad kept on appearing on my screen every time I would be doing an online search, or if I was on another website. So, I decided to give it a try. I went there and was hooked because I finally understood how hypnosis works and how you can use it to benefit someone into changing their lives for the better. I also went after who created NLP because I wanted to learn from the best. For my surprise, he uses hypnosis all the time. That, I can now say has reshaped the way I think. The very lonely girl from the Amazon who lacked social skills and didn’t know how to keep up with a conversation became a person who makes other people laugh, feel entertained, can talk to anyone at any time AND helps other people to have better lives by using those very powerful techniques.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My struggles along the way were in my mind. All the limiting beliefs I was imposing myself and later on I found out how the best way to change that is. Sometimes one may have the knowledge to change their lives. They may read books, they may go to seminars, but if they don’t do anything about it, then nothing really changes. I wanted a permanent change, and I know that the only way to change in a way that lasts if through changing what is in your unconscious mind.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in Neuro-Linguistic programming and have been working mostly with performers, actors, musicians and artists from all over the US, Brazil, Italy and Mexico. I help them get into the best state of mind and unleash the Genius within.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I would have never accomplished anything without the help of my son’s father. He, more than anyone, deserves credit for this. And my own father for introducing me to the concept of the mind.
