Meet Alison Kahn-Geiger of Tour de Couture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Kahn-Geiger.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Originally from Texas, my love for fashion and style began at an early age. I studied apparel design at Texas Tech University. Texas boast its own unique style, but I quickly realized the glamour and red carpet of Los Angeles captured most my interest. After moving to Hollywood, I began styling commercials and celebrity attended red carpet events. During this time, I also worked with individuals and retail organizations to style seasonal trends.

Through this experience I recognized the need for exposing parties to the esoteric and hidden luxury shoppes and boutiques typical exclusive to industry stylists.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Upon moving to California, I accepted several unpaid jobs on low-budget films and photo shoots in order to gain experience. Additionally, the fashion styling industry can be competitive and challenging. I had to learn how to promote myself and my skill in order to set my services apart from the hundreds of other stylists in Los Angeles.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tour de Couture story. Tell us more about the business.
Tour De Couture is a new concept that builds tours of luxury retailers, connecting any interested group to the private and often intimidating luxury retailers of Los Angeles. The tours are curated based on the interests of each group. From beginning to end the tours are bespoke and no request is off limits.

Itineraries cater to whims of tourists, locals, bachelorette parties, or anyone wanting to discover a professional stylist’s top picks and favorite shoppes.

Because I attend each tour the experience includes your own personal stylist.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Retail in general is constantly changing and adapting to the influence of online retailing and e-commerce. Brick and Mortar stores are shifting to experience focused locations with additional services such as private dressing rooms and on-site tailoring. Retail locations will likely shift toward entertainment and dinning to provide activities for all members of the family.

This shift makes Tour de Couture even more relevant as people seek an experience they cannot find online.
