Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Reason.
Alicia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a strong believer of The Arts. You know, the “stuff” that moves the people. The indescribable. The “hairs on my arm are standing up”. Since I was a child I moved as free-spirited and whimsical as Detroit allowed (with the underbelly being movement and performance as the keys) , going according to how my heart leads. And that, comes to find out, is dance and roller skating. But not separately, but the perfect marriage between the two. That is where you can find me. Hello!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but that has never stopped me. From being told to ‘sit down and be still’ from my Detroit community to ‘very talented, but just not the right fit’ from Hollywood, I have learnt to pave my own road, as there are those in far more superior roles who are systemically conditioned to the point of disregarding The Arts (as the precious gem that is is to the human race), ten-fold.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Pro Roller Skater who pays homage to the start of her career out of Venice Beach, California. I am proud of the fact that I have done 2 Vegas residencies as a principal roller skater , 1- full season of a Disney tv Show as a principal roller skate double, and has managed LA Roller Crew for 3 years, which is the nation’s most diverse group of roller skater performers that hail from Venice Beach, California.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have been dropped from skate crews and rivaled them with a competing crew that brings forth my creative vision and efforts more so than ever before.
