Meet Alecia Boddie-Edwards of TrainThemUp in Lake County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alecia Boddie-Edwards.

Alecia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a passion for young children (ages 5 to 12) right before they enter their teenage years. I believe that if you start working with them at a young age, its easier to instill life skills that they will carry into adulthood. That drive is what inspired me to start a program for young children, “TrainthemUp,” being guided from the scripture in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Tainthemup, LTD offers workshops for young children. We focus on developing soft skills that kids can use while slowly transitioning into adulthood skills such as; problem-solving, conflict resolution, self-love, social skills and love for others.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We usually get big support from the community. We were recently granted a grant to help with the cost of hosting the workshops. We prefer our workshops to be at no cost to the children. Our goal is to not turn away anyone.

Please tell us about TrainThemUp.
I’m the visionary. The Director. I create the programs along with a theme to make it not only a learning experience but fun one also. What makes me most proud, that each kid leaves our workshop with a lesson and a gift to represent the lesson learned.
