Meet Alecia Beckford-stewart of Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alecia Beckford-stewart

Hi Alecia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, I told everyone that would listen about my dreams to become an Olympian and a Doctor. It was a large feat for a small girl, but it was a desire that was ingrained in me after hearing that with a positive attitude and perseverance any goal can be accomplished.
So for me, being able to receive a solid academic foundation from a school with a successful athletic program was a key factor in my decision to attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and receiving a full track scholarship was a huge highlight to my decision. I took the title of student-athlete literally; my academic achievements were top priority while creating a balanced focus on my athletic obligations. Juggling the demands and challenges of school, work, exams, assignments, practice, travel, and community involvement were always tackled head on ensuring I would thrive in the classroom and on the track.
I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Exercise science, with a minor in Chemistry as well as competed on the world stage representing my home and native land with Athletics Canada doing the heptathlon and Bobsleigh Canada as a Brakeman. My athletic endeavors have been pivotal to my journey. These experiences have exposed me to various physical care practitioners and has made me appreciate the susceptibility of the human body to physical injury and the miraculous way the body can adapt to different stimuli and treatments.
While competing with the World Cup team and on the North America circuit, we had a few great sports chiropractors with us providing well needed manual therapy and for me personally providing an insight into the profession. It was at this time I learned that I could pursue my goal of becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic and live in California!
Graduating salutatorian of my class in 2021 from Palmer College of Chiropractic, I became Dr. Beckford-Stewart DC.
My desire to enter the manual medicine profession stems from the kindness and joy I received from sports medicine doctors and chiropractors who have helped me during times of injury and recovery. With their assistance, knowledge, and motivation I was able to return to my sporting endeavors and have a magnitude of success time and time again. It’s been extremely fulfilling to be able to pay that kindness forward while utilizing my passions and knowledge during every appointment with my patients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Everything worth doing comes with its unique obstacles and challenges. Becoming a Chiropractor and moving to a new country/city with no family, friends or networks was undoubtably the hardest thing about this journey. So I am grateful for every opportunity and support that I’ve encountered. Still in the process of finding my tribe, my vibe and my people in the city.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

I’m always making sure that it is a teaching moment so that patients are able to help themselves in the future as well.
Three years into the profession and I’m most proud of the growth I’ve made each year. In my communication skills. My knowledge and my understanding of injury management and prevention.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was watching the 1996 Olympic Games which was held in Atlanta. It truly sparked a drive in me to pursue success. To work hard and really make it to the big stage in everything I set my sights on. Pride, Prestige and possibilities jumped off the screen. Whenever a Canadian athlete stood on the podium or an athlete had a flawless performance during such a high stress event—it all seemed unreal but also extremely desirable.
