Today we’d like to introduce you to Alarra Saress.
Alarra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a young child, I developed a strong desire to bring peace and calm to myself and my loved ones. I noticed that two of the principle ways I could bring that peace and calm was through music, as a piano player, and healing touch (massage and comforting touch was very much instinctual). As I matured, my musicianship allied with my massage practice. I sought ways to deepen the healing effect of my work and trained in various modalities, namely Acutonics – a powerful sound healing practice that uses tuning forks and gongs both on the body and aurally. I bought my first gong in 2008 – The Sedna Gong – and since that time, I have performed 1000’s of hours of Gong Meditation. After I moved to Ojai, CA in 2012, my Gong Meditation evolved from a monthly event to a weekly community offering.
As of today, I now offer my Gong Meditation for individuals, private groups, seasonal and sacred ceremonies. What started as a combination of gong and singing bowls now includes various instruments of peace and transformation from glockenspiel to crystal didgeridoo, tuning forks and tongue drums, to rattles and ocarinas. And after a strong nudge from a spiritual friend who suggested I use my singing voice in the sound bath, my voice has become one of my primary tools for conveying melody and intention. In 2015 I founded Harmonic Earth, an organization designed to provide sacred space environments for the performance and education of the healing arts. These days, along with my performances and ceremonialist roles, I also teach others how to do what I do and how to become more intentional, resourced and authentic in their personal and professional lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In some ways, it has been a smooth road and in some ways, it has always been a struggle. It has been relatively constant in my heart to try to align myself with peace and transformation. The constant pull towards healing has been the purposeful tether that has helped me always find my way back even after longer periods of distraction and struggle. The struggles along the way range. I was shy growing up. I had a hard time locating kindred spirits. There was a fair amount of discord in Miami where I spent my first eighteen years of life. I struggled with an undiagnosed intestinal disorder that caused a fair amount of discomfort and made dealing with the normal stresses of life a bit harder. But I always found my heart and fascination in nature. And I continually find solace in the arts. As one of my favorite artists said, “Be constructive with your blues.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a sound healer, musician, bodyworker and teacher who specializes in Gong Meditation. I am known for my transformational Gong Meditation Sound Baths and my healing arts foundation Harmonic Earth. I am most proud of my children. In my professional life and career, I am most proud of the integrity of my healing arts work. Through some lucky stars, I’ve been able to practice my offering through thousands of hours of sound healing ceremony and performance. I am very proud of the beauty and authenticity of the healing space that this work creates in myself and others. I’m not sure what sets me apart from others but I have heard that my gong meditation offering is uniquely powerful. At the end of the sound baths, funnily enough, I have often been asked if I have eight arms! And people do often comment on how the experience felt more like a ceremony than just a sound bath.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is to be a good mom. Along with that, what matters most to me is the quality of my heart, the diligence of my offering toward peace and healing, and the soundness of my consciousness. If those aspects are nourished, perhaps more of that will exist in the world.
