Meet Aj Kang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aj Kang.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Aj. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making videos because of my Dad. He used to make travel videos when we went on road trips or vacations and I began to realize something special. I was able to constantly relive those events. My dad got me a point and shoot camera and I was able to make my own videos with my family. Ever since then, I fell in love with the ability to fall back into a memory over and over again.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The past years have not been easy. A couple of years ago, my friend and I were robbed and jumped after a shoot which not only defeated me but made me extremely depressed. I had a lot of voices in my head telling me that this was the world’s way of telling me that film wasn’t the path for me. I started to believe it for a little. I was at a constant war with my mind. I had to work extremely hard to get a new camera and equipment, but I always tried to remind myself that for any major setback, there is a major comeback.

What else should our readers know?
My partner and I are currently working together to organize a production team. Until then, we are both working on short films, commercial work, music videos, and other projects to build our portfolio and gain more experience in the film industry.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not believe in luck. Although a big part of film is connections and having other artists recognize you can help. Nothing beats hard work and drive.
