Today we’d like to introduce you to Adele Jackson.
Adele, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Adele by Adele Jackson was founded in the City of Angeles by designer Adele Jackson in 2017. She created a lifestyle brand that not only allowed her to continue to be creative through traditional forms of art but to also rethink clothing in a new way. Adele focuses on craftsmanship, sustainability, and conscious awakening with her work. Her inspiration is drawn from her home state of California through the urban active lifestyle and nature of the North and South.
When I first started this brand, I had the intention of having a strictly clothing brand, this had been by dream since I was in high school and what I had gone to college to create. However, as someone who wanted to create an independently owned company, it can be tough to start a clothing brand. So, I thought that it would be a great way to build my brand to start in a more art-focused direction creating wearable art. This has created the brand it is today, but with the steady growth, I am ready to go back in the initial goal of creating a clothing brand, which will be launching in the Fall of 2019.
I love that I am able to create art and develop my style along with creating pieces that I can show off everyday on my jackets and on my shirts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It for sure hasn’t been a smooth road. There are things that I learn every day on how to run a business, but it is worth the bumpy road because it has taught me problem-solving and how to pivot to work towards the big picture. In addition, as a small business, I don’t have a marketing budget to help with awareness and following. But it has allowed me to think of creative ways to grow that through social media and in-person events.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I create wearable art clothing and accessories. So this would include enamel pins, patches, printed and embroidered t-shirts, and keychains. I have started to expand into tote bags and will be launching a women’s wear clothing line this fall that is focused on prints and sustainable fabrics.
One thing that sets me apart is my art that is focus on celebrating nature and women. I love to in addition for my apparel (t-shirts & sweatshirts) combine screen printing and hand embroidery that Ido myself.
What makes me most proud of my company is the slow growth that I have made in the past two years and being able to travel to different events throughout California. In addition, this year I have been able to expand into wholesale.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
It’s not necessarily a singular memory, but more of a part of my childhood that guided me into the business I have today. As a child, my mom would make my Halloween costumes and Easter outfits by hand, I loved these memories watching my mom creating clothing out of almost nothing and creating something so magical.
